So I just wanted to get some thoughts from all you mustang buffs. I am sick of fiddling with my current lemon engine that i got when i bought the car, so I am replacing it (already bought the engine) with a 2005 or 2006 4.0L v6 from a newer mustang. It is a new engine. Good idea or bad? I am also getting a new transmission. This is only the beginning of the mods I plan on installing in this bad boy.

Thanks.

So your telling me that you are swapping out your 3.8L OHV for a 4.0L SOHC??? Even if the 4.0L is a better platform, which it isn't, it still wouldn't be worth the money for that small of an upgrade. An engine swap is only worth it if you are going with a 4v DOHC from a cobra or mach1.

Well I just talked to the guy that i got the engine from, and it is in fact still a 04, so it is the same engine. I am replacing it because the current one i have has too many miles and too many problems. The engine i just bought is a '04 V6 for 1650$, with 7000 miles on it. My transmission is being rebuilt with a speed kit. (Better gear ratio)

Ok that makes more sense. How much for the tranny rebuild?

1300$ for the rebuild and the labor.
I am also going to purchase a vortech supercharger. Any recommendations on what kind of extra parts i need. Like headers/intake etc, anything that will need to be changed to accommodate the supercharger? What brands are good quality? I know of a few, BBK etc.

Well vortech is a good brand but I personally like procharger, but to each his own. Most supercharger come in a kit which includes the actual unit and plumbing, injectors, spark plugs, and tuning software. If you get a supercharger and it doesn't have any one of those you will need to get it. You should do some suspension work as well, at a minimum you need sub-frame connectors but a strut tower brace and lower springs are both good ideas. You will also defintely need to upgrade your rear end with a Detroit True trac T-lok and a T/A rear end girdle. Do you have any mods done to the car as of right now?

No, but I plan on going all out on this car. I intend to make it a show car eventually. I am going to get the engine built first. I have no mods on right at the moment. I am coming up with a plan and find out exactly what is needed, but the end result hopefully is around 350 horse. That is my goal at least. Also what is the need to upgrade the suspension? And upgrading the rear end is because it needs to handle more hp?

your car will have a much larger increase in HP so a new suspension is a must. the stock suspension wouldnt be able to handle the increase in power your car would be outputting.
Don't forget about the drivetrain guys.......

Vortech's don't come with intercoolers. Once you get the kit in, purchase an aftermarket intercooler from Ebay and fab up the piping. You'll be glad you did.....
Ya I will definitely get an intercooler. Any recommendations for chrome pulley systems? I wanna upgrade my current ugly ones. I am going to buy in the next week BBK short headers, air intake, and a throttle body. BBK doesnt have the pulley system for my car.
