I just bought my wife a 2000 V6 Convertible. The speedometer in the car stays at around 35 mph all of the time. I was told to run a diagnostic on the instrument cluster to see if the needle was stuck. The speedometer swung from 0 to 120 and back during the test. What could cause the speedo to stay at one speed all the time? Thanks for the help.

Does the speedo drop to zero when the ingition switch is off?

Most of the better scan tools will read live data. If you have one of these, see if the scan tool shows the correct speed. If the scan tool shows the speed, then the sensor is okay and the speedo or wiring is likely to blame.

I'm having a similar problem mine floats around a lil bit, but it's really sticky. I've taken off the needle and nothing is blocking it from sticking. I'm convinced it's the computer, which means I need to buy a different cluster. Try and see if anything is stopping the pin that the needle hangs on to. Hope this helps!
