A coworker of mine has a 2000 trans am with an ls1 compleatley stock (auto). i have a 2008 mustang GT 5M with a jlt cai, 93 race tune, and under drive pullies. i make 292 RWHP and 311 RWTQ. do i have a chance. i am a decent driver btw. He wants to race soooooo bad and i would love to wipe the floor with him as much crap as he talks.

The LS1s range from 305-320 BHP right out of the box so I'd say you've got the advantage.
what do they usually dyno?
They'll lose about 12-15% just like our Mustangs.
Just smoke him.You can do it.
There's only one way to find out and thats to race him.

So you've got 2 choices: Either you quit being a puss and you race him to see what happens, or you forget about your dreams and just give up.

Red pill, or blue?

go ahead and race I have kicked many camaros asses with almost similar tunes
So i finally got a chance to race him last night. it was at like 100 am with nobody on the roads. we estimated what was about 1/4 mile of road and race 3 times. 1st race i jumped him of the line held about 2 1/2 cars on him until the end of third gear at which point he started to pull on me at the end his nose was at my door 1 win for me. Second race i sleep alitte on the launch and was just about dead even with him until again he hit third then pulled on me. the last race i shot out hard and stayed about 3 cars in front he pulled again in third but i was still 1 1/2 to 2 cars in front when we finished 2 wins me 1 win him:D

Very nice but not the place to race. Congrats on kicking some chevy a**.
wow that took some Marbles on your part. I would never race on the streets, much less on the streets of North Carolina where they have some of the most expensive speeding tickets in the United States ;)
Not for nothing, get your a$$ on the track and off the street. Do not want to read about another mishap due to racing. And by the way congrats. Now get off the street!
does anyone know about a race track near south eastern pa. i heard about maple grove but i dont know anything about them. i just want to go and do a few runs and not have to worry about getting in trouble.

Ok, I have a question why does our mustangs starts to slow down after 3rd gear? it happened to me many times and I just can't figure it out...any explanation? how can you overcome this?
It really sucks when you are in the lead all the time before the end.
BTW congrates on winning told you so :D

come on now you got 39,000 posts you should know better than that
LS1s are rockin 350 at the crank out of the box.... so that 305 HP rating you see is at the very least what they are at the wheels

and racer of said trans am.....you lucked out, but congrats

My mistake... It should have been rwhp not flywheel.

I think a camaro, transam can take a mustang gt. Even with minor mods to the GT.. It really just depends on the driver. LS1s are some good motors and they will fly. they can handle a crap load of nos also. ( my old 04 silverado constantly got a 200 shot and never had a problem except wheel hop, got my tranny and rearend lol) The onlly thing about an ls1 ther a pain to work on expecially when there in the transam or camaro!! Stangs are still #1 on my list tho!!!!
