One of my buddies at work wants to race.. I have an 01 Cobra with CAI Flowmasters and dats all. My buddy has a 00 z28 AUTO with a borla catback. I know this will be a close race but let me know what I am getting into before I do this. I will post the results on monday after I race him :) I know his auto sucks up a lot of power..

Dont miss a shift ! ! you could win ,but he has it alot easer with an auto !
Its really close , im having a hard time thinking this one through !
He could edge you out , I dont know , race him and fined out :laughlitt
O dont leave us hanging, you better post the results:sterb: !
I need to know ! win or lose !
The autos in those cars are pretty good compared to the ones in mustangs. If you had some gears then I would say that with good driving you should beat him every time. It sounds like a drivers race for sure. Pull out your spare and anything else you can, and try not to have a lot of gas when you race. Some practice wouldn't hurt either. Remember those DOHC Cobra like those high rpms so take it close to redline every shift. Make sure to post results and be safe.
Should I use traction control? It seems like it can almost slow you down a bit because it will bog the engine on you. I know on my 01 GT traction control off was way better. I just got the cobra a month ago so I am still learning how it is different then the GT.
A month ago! your in trouble, you are going to have to race perfect to win ,and not having that much time behind the wheel of you COBRA ,is not going to help !
Race him again in a few month`s , if you lose:)
Traction control off deffintly and as for the race I have seen 01 cobras beat down on SS camaros and your cobra will respond to that exhaust more than his maro will. AS for trasmission unless he is tuned his will shift around 4-5 maybe less so you should have a pretty good chance.
I think you will be able to take him if you don't spin your tires on launch, but also don't baby it off of the line. he has an auto, his car is going to be consistant and take most of the driver out of the equation. I have heard those cars are underrated and yours might not make the power advertised (remember the intake fix recal???) You will benifit from shifting at 7 grand where as his car probably will shift at a much lower rpm. Just get a good launch and I think you will be fine. When I test drove one I didn't like the power off the start, but once it started revving that thing pulled nicely.

That recall was on the 99s. 01's should be fine. GOOD LUCK!

Let us know!

Later,

your cobra should have alittle more power, but it's probablly heavier as well. If you haven't mastered shifting your cobra at the perfect times you might go down, if you shift perfectly you might win. It's so close it's really hard to say. Even if you both had autos I wouldn't be able to say for sure who'd win.
I'm pretty sure the camaro is heavier and you should have no problem beating him you car runs low 13's vs the z28's low 14's I wouldn't worry about it

wrong COBRA slic ! 320hp 2001 Cobra`s dont run low 13`s ,mid to high 13`s with a good driver , and LS1 craparo`s don`t run low 14`s, try mid to high 13`s .
At the track two weeks ago ,BONE STOCK LS1 white camaro vert auto , 13.9 at 103 in the 1/4 !
Its deff a drivers race.

Go from a dig, thats your only real advantage. Cause hes gonna start to reel you in by the end of 3rd, but you should have him off the line. So keep the race short.

Ok yeah my bad I was thinking 03 nevermind.
the 03 cobra should easily walk the LS1, thats in the league of the LS2 GTO. But it can prolly beat the GTO cause the GTO weighs about as much as a house.
