Short end of the story is I just plowed through a fairly large doe on my way home today at about 65 mph. I just have liability coverage on it so I'm needing advice if it will be worth my time and money to fix it up or if I should just scrap it. It's a stock car with just some standard replacement parts to start.
- Both airbags have deployed.
- The radiator seems to have been cracked as one of the officers noticed the smell of antifreeze
- the hood is pretty well damaged
- one of the headlights is gone
- i'm guessing the bumper is trashed
- front driver's side panel is bent far back enough on it that it prevents the door from opening easily
- power steering went out
- battery began losing power, so I'm guessing the alternator's belt's broke, slipped off, or the alternator's trashed
the damage seems to be localized to the driver's corner. The fan was still running surprisingly. I haven't been able to get under the hood yet and the car's not in my possession right now but once it is, I can get more details. Other things to consider will be I live in Iowa so I'll need to change all four tires to winter tires, replace the other headlight cover since it's heavily oxidized and I don't want uneven lighting. and I don't have a very well heated garage to work in. I've enjoyed doing my own repairs, but it's mainly been simple stuff like replacing spark plugs, spark wires, ignition coil, fuel pump, etc. I think other than the fuel pump, remounting the passenger side window was the biggest pain in the ass.
