I recently posted about my warranty from carmax thus negating any plans for putting aftermarket parts in and im really anxious to add some more power to my car. The 3.73 gears i think is the right number i read about add more acceleration, but do they take away from the top speed? also how do you go about changing gears? also a base price range, and if all of this wont end up happening knowledge gained never hurts right?

one more thing whats the powerband for a stock 03 GT?
my guess is 1->2 : 5600
2->3 : 5400
3->4 : 5200
4->5 : 5000

thanks in advance:bigthumbsup

How can a powerband be a single number? You mean RPM limit or what is the the fattest part of the powerband?
Rear gears will improve the multiplication of torque, they don't add power, the top end will diminish a bit, but how often are you at the top end of 5th gear? Hopefully not often, esp on the street...
Rear gears and install are usually about $500, make sure you have someone that knows what they are doing perform the replacement, if the lash isn't set right, goodbye rear end!
Work on the suspension, it's the best way to take adavantage of the power you have.

thanks for the info, but as to the powerband question after reading the forums a bit i came to my own conclusion that the powerband is basically the points at which you should shift to maintain maximum performance and what i was wondering is what the shift points (in regards to rpm's obviously) would be for a stock 03 GT.

Yes and No. When you look at a HP/Torque curve, the power band is a range where your engine is making the most amount of power. It is not a single point, it is a range--or a band. Yes you should shift somewhere whithin the power band in order to maintain optimum acceleration. As for the actual values, I cannot comment on your particular application, but this is something that you should figure out on your own as you get a feel for your car.
