Hi,

I am new to the site I am a teacher. I teach Precision Metalworking Lathes/Milling machines out of Nebraska. I would like some input about a project that I am planning in the near future.

I recently bought a 2004 Mustang GT 40th Anniversary model. I would like to give it a boost in power. Here are my thoughts I like the Kenne Belle supercharger kit but I have Tons of questions. Will the stock engine handle this or do other modifications need to be done. Are they easy to install? How loud are they? Any good places to buy them? Any other recommendation to gain around 100 hp. Any help would be appreciated as I do my research.

Jeff

welcome to the site:wavey. i would highly recommend a kb on your car, i have a 2001 with a vortech, i really wish it had a kb now, kenne bell's make awsome power and it will be fine on your motor, just don't raise the boost too much and kenne bell's are LOUD in open throttle. You can probably buy one on the kenne bell site but im not sure what the prices will be like.

Welcome to AFM! :wavey Check the 4.6 talk and tech sections for tips and info. I am a fan of the KB, and it depends on which KB, and how much boost but the stock engine can usually take 8-10 psi with an intercooler, and 6-8 psi without and intercooler.

only other mods i would recommend would be some gauges (fuel pressure, boost/vacuum, and possibly air/fuel ratio) and a larger throttle body. the kenne bell kits come pretty complete and only really require a tune after the install. kenne bell sends them with a baseline tune but i wouldnt use it for anything other than crawling your way to a dyno. not saying that it isnt a good tune, but all cars are different and it is best to have a professsional make you a custom tune. the supposed "threshold" for our internals is 450rwhp.

how many miles do you have on your current engine?

A KB would be really nice and the quickest way to get you a big chunk of power...

Is your stang manual? or auto?

The limit on what the engine can handle isn't so much based on boost as it is amount of power produced. The stock bottom end on a the 2V 4.6L motor is good for 425 horses on the ground at best, anything more is running on borrowed time. 8-9psi will typically land you right into that range.

I had a KB'd 2004 GT and I can tell you that you would not be disappointed with a KB setup. The kits come with all the fuel system upgrades needed to support the power levels put out by the blower. In addition to the kit, I would recommend a boost gage and fuel pressure gage. I also would recommend a QUALITY Air/Fuel ratio meter that uses an additional wideband O2 sensor added to the exhaust.

You'll also need a set of spark plugs that are 1 heat range lower and a 180F thermostat.

Everything else is included with the blower kit.

Thanks for all the advice this really helps in getting me started for those of you that asked questions. The car has 24,000 miles on it and is an auto. It is a great looking car now to make it a great driving car.

if you have an auto i heard KB's will ruin them at the higher psi's im thinking about a vorctech for my 03 GT auto. it gives about 15 less hp at 9 psi than the KB but will save me some years on my trans. if you have a stock auto or manual i wouldnt run higher than 9 maybe 10 psi
