I've been working on my 04 GT and trying to figure out a "klunk" noise coming from my driver's side when I go over bumps. I think I've narrowed it down to my rack and pinion, but want some feedback/thoughts on my diagnosis before I throw $$$ at parts.

So far I've checked and found to be OK:

-suspension components
-ball joint
-inner and outer tie rod

What I am noticing is play in the shaft for the rack and pinion, specifically the part the inner tie rod threads onto. There's play up/down....no play in/out. Not a WHOLE lot, but there is play. I don't notice this play on the passenger side. Is there suppose to be any kind of play here?
