I have a 2004 Mach 1 auto. It has 410 gears, K&N intake, borla cat-back, and a dyno tune. I bought the car with 16,8xx miles and just hit 17,300 the other day. Everything was fine when I parked the car then the next morning I went to start it and the engine light popped on.. I took it up to the local auto zone and the guy said its because of the cold weather and the intake that's on the car. This makes no sense to me because I thought engines were supposed to run better with folder air. Right? The car smells like its burning rich, I have bad fluids changed but the lights still on. Any ideas on what's going on or what I should look to replace first? The cars parked for winter so I have plenty of time to work on it. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

did the genius at AutoZone actually run the code? That would be your first clue as to the problem...ours too

He ran the code but he said it didn't show anything.. That's when he proceeded to tell me about the cold air and my intake.

It didn't show anything? That doesn't make sense unless he cleared it before reading it. Have another place pull the code then post that code here for further help. To help you without further info is just guessing and a waste if time.

First and foremost, I wouldn't go back to that autozone. If it had a light on, there should have been something stored in the computer. I agree that any suggestions right now are guesses, but something you can try that won't hurt is to clean the MAF with MAF cleaner. I noticed you said you have a K&N. The previous owner may have gone a little heavy on the filter oil and some might be on the MAF.

Like others said, get the code and post back and we can go from there. No code = nothing but speculation.

Aside from the light being on, does it run as normal? As far as it smelling rich, that kind of thing is subjective and can be paranoia influenced by the cel. If there are no driveability issues then I would be willing to bet that it's something dumb like the gas cap not being tightened properly, happens all the time.

Could be a faulty code. The littlest piece of dirt on a sensor can throw it. If that's the case sometimes if you drive it hard it can burn off

Thanks guys I unplugged the battery changed the oil and now it's off the car always ran fine anyways so I wasn't too worried about it. I guess the whole running rich thing was just in my head haha but appreciate the help.

I get the "random misfire" CEL all the time...I just make sure the car has oil and water, old school
