2005 Mustang DRL Daytime Running Lights

My 2005 4.0 V6 Mustang convertible has the daytime running lights that automatically come on. Is there a way to turn off or disable the DRL system?

I didn't know they came factory with that option. I did see an upgrade that was just a plug-in that would turn the front turn signals into DRL's. Is it your turn signals that light up or your headlights? I would rather have the headlights, because I would fear that other people would think I just don't know how to turn my lights on all the way. If it is your headlights, I would like to know if it was factory or a mod. If it is your turn signals, it may just be as easy of unpluging an inline module if it wasn't factory.

You have 3 choices...
1. Have the dealer re-program the Smart Junction Box (SJB)
(most will not or say they can't)
2. Replace the SJB with a current US version (you will lose a couple features that were available in 05 only)
3. Modify the wiring yourself with a switch to disable the DRL's

its a factory thing set up mostly for canadian cars. it turns on the headlights, but somewhat dimmer than the actual headlights to help save on the life of the bulbs. its in the owners manual ( under if so equiped) but it doesnt go into any detail about the system. it does not turn on the tail lights. i think graypony is right on track. you should be able to get that reflashed at a dealer. i would do some calling around.

I must have missed that in my 08 owners manual. If the dealer can turn it off, I wonder if mine would turn it on. I like the visibility factor. I ride motorcycles and think it makes a big difference with folks seeing you. I have a vapor silver car and on grey days I could blend in a little more then I would prefer. I try to turn the lights on, but I often forget. Thanks for the info. I learn something new everyday on this forum.

Thanks for the info! I have only had the car a few weeks, so I am just assuming that it was factory settings. I will check with some of the local dealerships. IF it is something cheap and easy otherwise I can live with it.
I know this may be irrevelent, but my 2007 Civic Si had a fuse that I pulled to disable it's DRL (daytime running lights) here in Canada.

Maybe the Canadian version has the same mechanism without having the SJB reprogrammed?

they should be able to. In the US DRL was an option for cars sold through fleet sales. some rental cars and corporate owned vehicles had the DRL.

My 05 has magically enabled this option after the car got wet and I took the battery off for charging... wtf!??
I live in TN almost in GA (hint never do 30 over in GA, it will cost you around $700.00, just for all you Snow Birds on I-75).

Anyway, same story. Low battery voltage in 2006 GT. I've solved automatic door locking, reprograming the remote so I can open the trunk with my key, BUT I CAN'T FIND A WAY TO TURN THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS! If anyone has an answer please help! Only GM products are supposed to have DRL's.

We're you able to get rid of this new found unwanted feature? My 05 GT did the same thing this week.
