I have a 2005 Mustang GT with the Whipple HO kit. I got the "Tuner Kit", which comes without plugs, injectors or a tune. My tuner was a New Edge guy without a ton of S197 experience, who convinced me to buy some Cobra injectors "re-flowed" to 42lbs. He then did a custom tune and programmed it into my SCT II. Besides the fact that they are taller and he didn't properly secure the rails at one point (another story), I'm wondering if my issue could be caused by the nonstandard injectors: When the car has been sitting awhile, it tends to suddenly bog or sputter when I get on the throttle. The usual response is a brief surge of power, then a sudden cut-out for a moment resulting in a close-up look at the windshield, then power comes back on. I hav'nt been able to have anyone follow me yet to check for black smoke, but the blackness on the tips of my exhaust wasn't there before the install. Warming up at idle doesn't help much, it needs to be driven at moderate RPM's for a few miles to eliminate this cut-out effect. Once it's good and warm everything is smooth, although the mileage sucks.

I'm at 450hp to the wheels right now. I'm considering just buying the same 38 or 39# injectors that come with the full kit and ordering a canned tune from bamachips or whoever is the canned tune leaders these days (I've been off the forums for a long time) and seeing if that resolves it. I'm wondering if anyone has had problems at my power levels with the kit injectors, or if you've had to upgrade to 60# or something re-flowed like what I have. Also I'm wondering what the HP figures are for you canned tune guys are like: would I drop some power compared to my custom tune? I could either do the canned tune + injectors myself, or take it to Adam at ST and have him redo my custom tune for the standard injectors. Doing it myself would be cheaper, but I don't want to drop power. The blower kit is my only mod right now,which has the GT500 pumps and the CAI included.

Keep in mind, I'm just going off a gut feeling here. It's easy to get steered in the wrong direction by forum post assumptions. I could be completely off mark suspecting the injectors. If there's a better hunch out there, I'd like to hear it.

I'm trying to figure out what "re-flowed" injectors mean. Are the injectors blue or lime green?

I agree with 'travelers', take it to Adam or find a reputable S197 tuner in Santa Barbara. Call one of your local Mustang clubs, I'm sure they'll point you in the right direction.

I think what the "re-flowed" is the flow is matched between all 8 injectors. I have an extra set of stock injectors that I'm going to have them matched.

I'm still not sure why the tuner would have suggested a 42 lb injector, especially one that doesn't properly fit the fuel rail.
That is kind of odd, especially since the stock 03/04 Cobra used 39# injectors.

Re-flowed injectors causing bogging?

Lets start with a simple question. Are you using HTO plugs gapped @ 32? To me your problem sounds like it might be what's called "spark blowout" Just a thought.

Once of the first things I tried was to swap out plugs. Yes, I am using the proper colder plugs and gap. I have since taken it to Adam at ST and he reports no spark blowout. There is a guy at his shop using the same injectors, which are indeed terminator injectors, and they say they are fine for my application. I parroted the term "re-flowed" from another poster, which I believe just means balanced. This is a learning process for me, obviously.

Adam retuned the car, and the following morning I reproduced the same problem. This time the car simply stalled backing out the driveway and required WOT to restart. This leads Adam to suspect the cold start fuel tables. He is sending me an updated tune today.

Unhook you battery for a few hours to re-set your ECU and then go drive the car. My adaptive learning is still turned on in my ECU and if I don’t “clear” the ECU every few days it starts acting exactly like your car is. Every time I clear it the car runs perfect for a while. Next time I get out to the shop I am going to have the function shut off completely.

Apparently my ECU doesn’t like how I drive.:gringreen

I used FRPP injectors but went through the same issues. It is in the tune. The shop that did my install worked diligently to fix it. I had to let the engine come up to operating temp before driving or it would surge/buck at low throttle/rpms. The tuner thought the cold start tables were the issues initially and retuned accordingly. This caused the car to not want to start. They finally addressed some of the drivablity programming issues and got it worked out....and the carbon build up is normal and catches alot of us off guard when we first notice:bigthumbsup
