Hey guys, this morning as i'm looking under my car i've noticed an oil leak on the ground right underneath my differential, and noticed the bolts are really wet also. Im guessing it's not tight or a bad gasket. I wanted to fix this problem my self and not taking it to the shop. I've heard a sealant would fix this problem and then just refill the oil. What should i do? Thank you. :bigthumbsup

Jack the rear end up and put a drain pan under the diff. Loosen the bolts and let the oil drain. Clean everything off with a soft cloth. Scrape the old sealant off the housing and plate with a scraper and clean the surfaces good with lacquer thinner (or some other solvent). Get a tube of black RTV gasket maker and 3 qts of Royal Purple 75W-140 gear oil, and a little packet of red locktite at your local O' Reilly's. Put a bead of rtv sealant on the plate and a drop of red loctite on each of the bolts. Put the plate back on and torque the bolts down to 28 - 38 ft-lbs. Let it dry overnight and fill with 2 qts oil + a few more oz. of the third. Should be 1/4 - 1/2" below the filler hole. Then all done. :)
