1022 Views 9 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  xchris
Just bought this car last month from a used dealer. Occassionally hestitates to start, but always started. Until last night at the gas station. After i pumped my gas i went to turn it on and nothing but a clicking noise. Lights and fuel gauge works. Friend mentioned the starter? What's wrong with my new baby!

could be a loose or corroded battery termial(s) or a weak battery, do you still have a warranty from where you bought it from?
even if the lights and radio working and power windows...etc?

sure as they dont require anywhere near the amount of voltage to operate vs what the starter needs to crank the engine

k, so a jump will work...and for my long term fix a new battery( my mechanic on base told me he cleaned off the battery last time i brought it in)....

maybe, again if you have a loose connection at the battery terminal(s) then even a jump wont do it, so you need to check those connections to sea if they are tight

Update..wondering if this will do

...so i took out my battery, cleaned off all corrossion replaced it with a friends battery from his jeep. And it started...good... but now will my car kill thru this battery until it's dead....do you think this sounds like an alternator problem, my friend insists that it is. I plan on taking it to auto zone tomorrow have them run the computer tests on it.

yes it could be an alt issue, have it test on the car, not off the car at some "parts store" and if it does fail any test, stay away from the parts store ones and Only buy an oem Ford one....if you cant find and oem Ford one for a decient price, lmk as we offer special pricing to the military...
Ha, i have gone through multiple alternators and it doesnt sound like thats your problem, when my alternator died, you could sometimes jump the car but as soon as you take off the cables you've got maybe 3 seconds before you start noticing everything is dying on you. Your case sounds like a battery problem which is exactly what i just had a month ago, go replace the battery or keep your friends if its the correct amount of amps for your car, i think the stock is something like 520, i got a BMW battery that fits that is something like 690 or 790 amps
