2006 gt - best springs??

I have a 2006 mustang gt with a stock suspension except a saleen sway bar... Bought a set of tokico d-specs off craigslist for an amazing $200, and now i want to look at a set of springs, i want to have a good rideability, but also i want to feel a good handling upgrade. I've looked at LMR's SVE brand, ford k springs, steeda ultralite, and H&R super. Sport. Can snyone give me their experience? Personally i've always leaned towards ultralites, but they are ofcourse the most expensive. My car is infact a daily driver, but I've always loved a track-ready type mustang... Any thoughts please?!

I run the ultralites with D-specs and like the setup quite a bit.

It rides well enough for me to daily drive the car on our crummy roads here in MA so I'd think you'd be fine with that setup in TX considering you probably don't have all the frost heaves and pot holes we have here. I don't even have the shocks anywhere near the softest setting and it's soft enough for me.

Do you run the stock strut mounts? Did you happen to need a panhard? I was looking at getting camber bolts too, with ultralites it seems like the camber bolts would suffice correct?

As far as the strut mounts go it sounds like everyone says to at least go with GT500 strut mounts over the factory ones.
I'm running caster/camber plates & an adjustable panhard. I know some people say they lower without the panhard but I'm picky about having my axle off center so an adjustable PHB was on my 'required items' list.

I'm just on a budget so if i don't NEED camber plates and if I don't NEED new strut mounts, i'd rather not buy them right now. My car is 51k miles

Hello Dean,

Putting on the springs will put the camber setting on the front suspension around 1.5 degrees negative. The factory upper strut mount has no provision to correct this. So if you run any lowering spring without correcting the alignment, your front tires will wear excessively on the inside edge..

You can get away with stock shocks and struts. The handling of the car will not be optimal, but the ride will be OK.

Hey,

Most of the springs you are looking at are really great springs and will do you well. When looking at springs you really have to consider how you use the vehicle. Judging by the fact you want some "rideability" I take it you use your car for more than just the track. That being the case I don't think you would go wrong with the Ford Racing K springs, or Steeda springs. In addition to these, I would also recommend SR springs, as well as Eibach springs. These are our most popular Spring options and we always get positive feedback.

I personally had a set of Ford Racing K springs on my 2006 GT. I absolutely loved them, the ride quality was only marginally different, and it hugged the corners like a dream. I used to be able to do 70+ mph around some curves in my area! That was also running only stock shocks and struts and no other suspension modifications. I really don't have enough good things to say about FRRP K springs, honestly might have been the best mod I ever did to my 06.

I didn't go with a set of caster camber plates or pan hard bar at the time, but looking back probably should have at least gone with caster camber plates. By the time I traded it in, I could notice the inside of the front tire treads fading quicker than the outside. With only a 1.5" drop, the tire is only slightly pitched out in the front so a standard alignment usually does the trick. Anything more than that, I would recommend getting a set of Caster Camber plates.

It sounds like you have a good idea of what you are looking for though and are not going to go wrong no matter what you pick.

At 51k, your stock strut mounts are likely shot. Go with the GT500 as a replacement, minimum. If not, go CC plates. I'd stay away from the "crash" bolts.

Thanks for the informative response, i'm going more for performance than looks, also i was under the impresssion k springs were just rebranded eibach pro's and personally i don't want eibachs

Since they're only $100 that wont be too bad i guess

Another option is the Steeda HD strut mounts, which feature a degree or so of camber adjustability which should be sufficient. A two birds, one stone kind of thing that might be a wash on price vs GT500 strut mounts plus C-C plates.

Make sure that front toe is within spec. Bad toe with good camber is usually worse than bad camber with good toe.

Surprisingly, the Eibach Sportline Spring Kit, was a good addition to my former 06 GT. I later added the FRPP Suspension Kit.
