My 06 v6 4.0 has an automatic in it, and I wanted to swap out the transmission, I bought what I thought was a T5 but when I looked at it, turns out it was a T3650 for a 4.6 V8, will this tranny work on my 4.0?

Or should I just go trade it for a T5?

Thanks in advance

Its strange, I'm not sure if it is oem or what, but they guy I bought it off of said (and i saw his car) it came off of his oem '06 4.0, after doing some research and what not, I found that the bellhousing matches up and fits my engine. I am not sure if I will need to tune the gearing or anything, but if it fit someone elses 4.0 then I assume it should fit mine as well. lets hope for the best.

The 3650 requires a bellhousing adapter plate to work with the 4.0. If it bolts up without the adapter plate it's not a 3650.

agreed, the bellhousing is larger for the v8. i had to get the adapter kit for mine when i put a tr3650 in. mine was a manual trans when i started. i know you will need to change your computer out because you are starting out with an automatic. plus your drive shaft will need to be changed, and your rear end. you will need the hydraulic assembly for the clutch and a gt shifter. and pedal set up. just going from a t-5 to a tr3650 it ran me about $2000. i would imagine that you would be looking at about $3000. and that's not including labor. it's not cheap. there is a guy on mustangcollective called "nice pony" he is the one you would really need to talk to. plus the v6 clutch and flywheel. stay away from the dual mass flywheel. i hope this helps.

Thanks, but I got 3/4 of the stuff I need including a newish clutch/pressure plate, driveshaft, transmission, throwout bearing, shifter, the pcm and a few other things. The transmission is actually made for a v6 4.0 so I am actually good to go.

I do my own work so it should take me about 3-4 days at the most to do it. I'll take pictures and what not and post when I am done. Since I can't get the parts I need immediately it may take me a few months.
