I also thought of going with the S-Type, is it a big difference from the original stock?

If you want the deeper old school type of sound, the Ford Racing FR500S might be the option for you, though they are a bit pricy, but no more than the Borlas. And the Ford Racing doesn't drone. Just to warn you though, they are only loud on start up and when you step on the gas. Cruising and freeway driving they are not loud, but once you step on it you know they are there even with the stereo on (and even if you have the stock manifolds and cats).

If you want the constant loud sound then get an off-road h-pipe and some Pype-bomb axlebacks, they are a muffler delete so they have some of the least sound restriction. Of course, eliminating the cats may give you issues with emissions. I personally don't want them because of that issue, and because I don't want the car to be too loud.

Definitely! The first time I started it up after install, i could not believe that they were just axlebacks. Once they get about 100 miles on them, they really scream when you hit the gas, but when your cruising in the city or on the highway, you can barely hear them. I will have them on every mustang i own. So YES! Get them!

If the rest of your exhaust is stock, you may want to consider MAC Boomtubes. They are muffler deletes but aren't obnoxiously loud or "high pitch". They have louvers inside that mellow the sound out a bit. I really like mine.

Also, they are reasonably cheap. They should be obtainable for less than $300 if you shop around. Fitment isn't great but if you play with them enough you should get them lined up fine. Quality-wise, mine hasn't shown any rust or anything after 2.5 years.

If you want a refined muffler then Borla. The FR500 with a X-Pipe is great.
My 06 GT has a H-Pipe and MAC Mufflers loud and raspy. I like it.
The Flowmaster's the square set sound great and I have seen them around 360 bucks lately. When they first came out over 400 bucks so prices on some you may find a little cheaper as Borla makes a 5 star product and the price reflects what that does cost.
I just installed a set of Borla S's on a new 5.0. They went on like a glove 0 leaks or any other problem. Borlas as stated above smooth at idle and on the HWY 1 of the best and I'm comparing this to European and Domestic V8's to V12's. They are that good.

Flowmaster makes a great exhaust at a great price. I am happy with my flowmaster axle back (American Thunder), plus if you do an intake it will increase exhaust tone as well. I was thinking of going with the flowmaster outlaw series axle backs, but after watching a ton of video's im thinking it might be too loud. Never thought i'd say that. But I may still end up doing it. For me it was all about tone and I feel that flowmaster has nailed it. Love the tone of their exhausts but I also love the Borla ATAks. But Borla doesn't give their exhaust away.

Check the classifieds here for some used exhaust stuff. Maybe you can find something cheap to experiment with. I just bought a set of Bullitt axle back mufflers for 150 bucks vs 399 new. At least if I dont like the sound I havent lost a lot of money. Im installing them tomorrow so ill see if its what im looking for. I just wanted something a bit throatier than the stock GT muffs but not obnoxious.

By the way..Coney Island boy here.....now in Florida for the past 22 years.

Coney Island itself....23rd between Mermaid and Surf, before the city housing projects took over. We ended up on Linden Blvd and Crescent ST in ENY in the Pink Houses. Used to street race on Fountain Ave back in the 70's, way before you were born....lol. I may be getting a bunch of gruff from the forum here but my ride back then was a 1966 Chevelle, 350 LT1, pushing close to 500 horses. Angle plug turbo heads, 11:5.1 compression, 540 solid lifter cam, Moroso 5:14 rear, multi color pearl, flake paint job, tunnel ram scoop. Only accessory on the motor was a high output alternator.

Totally agree on going for that deep sound. I have borla stingers and love them for their throaty sound. If your looking to really wake up you're car and/or neighbors get long tubes along with an axle-back and you'll fall in love if that's what your're going for. Its all preference though.
