2006 Mustang GT-Shifting brake light

Anyone else had this happen? My brake lights come on when I shift. A while back, a friend was following me around town. When we stopped he asked why I kept tapping my brake. I wasn't. At first I thought I might have had my foot over a tad too far and was touching the brake pedal when I shifted, but that wasn't the case. Last night, I was watching in the mirror. Sure nuff, every time I depress the clutch pedal the brake lights flash. Sometimes briefly, sometimes they stay on until my foot is off the clutch pedal. I have my own thoughts on this, but would like to hear from others.

Sounds like a mechanical fault or short somewhere. Does it happen when you depress the clutch without shifting?
That it does. It's definitely related to depressing the clutch pedal, not the actual shift. It seems to happening more frequent. I can be parked in the drive, press the clutch pedal and the lights come on.
Something is definitely cross-wired or shorted.
