Hey kinda stuck here.I owe just $3,000 more on my 06 V6 Mustang and its paid off.I am wondering if it would be wise to trade in for an 08 GT?This will be the last debt I have to pay if I pay it off...
If anyone out there has any opinions on this it would be a great help thanks....

Hey man welcome to the site I hope you enjoy your stay.
In my opinion I think it would be best to finish off paying for your
V6 Mustang then sell it to a private party not trade it in to a dealer.
Selling it to a private party you should be able to make a lot more
money on it. Then I would buy the GT. I think its easier and nicer to have a V8 when it comes to american cars. You wont have anything like trying to add dual exhaust or getting a GT front bumper to make your car look and sound nicer. Thats just my opinion.
What ever you do I wish you the best of luck.

StangSucker is kinda right.....a private sell would probably bring you more money in the long run. Sometimes folks don't like the hasle of trying to sell a car to an individual though, so your only choices are to trade. Myself, I have sold and traded quite a few in the day, and it has worked both for and against me to be honest. I would atleast take it to a dealership and go thru the process to see what they will allow you on a trade, then bicker a tad with them if you think its on the high side. Do not let them run your credit, don't even give them your social security number. If you have good credit secure a loan yourself, if they offer some decent options, take them up on it, do which ever is best.

I have had both new stangs (2007 & 2008) with the 4.0 and the 4.6 engines. Fuel economy between the two wasn't even enough to even justify arguring over, so thats not an issue. My insurance did not go up either thanks to a clean driving record and years of being a safe driver (knock on wood.)

Putting all the GT parts on a v-6 car is fine, the bumper covers, grills, and such, but you still have a v-6, and if you are going after the v-8 sound and performance, you will not come close to the v-8, no matter what you do or spend. However, there is a few 4.0 cars running helluva times, but they are heavily modded with forced induction and all kinda tricks, not just simple bolt ons. I respect the 4.0s with all honesty, have seen some nasty ones.........but in the long run a v-8 will be less on your budget and you will get more out of it.

Right now as it looks the dealership gives a trade in value of $12,000 being it's still under 20K.So with a trade in I'm looking at a $300 a month @4.9% for 60months which is cheaper than the $359 @ 5.9% for 72months I was paying for the V6...kind of funny when ya think about it...thanks though for the input & welcome-I will consider.

Nothing like a car that is paid off. Enjoy it for a while! :bigthumbsup
i gotta say, if the car is paid for keep it bro. thats just my opinion. sure its not as fast as a gt, but use the 6 tog et to work and stuff. then after ya save up a good down payment, get a new gt, and take that one out on the weekend or when ya get that wild streak!

Tough decision but do what you feel is right for you.
I say sell it and buy the 08 GT. I actually kept my 06 GT and bought another 08 GT. Trying to keep Ford in business all by myself.
I am wondering however if it would be a wise decision to just pay off the V6 and put more $ into it cause both Steeda and Shelby are selling some realy great packages for the 4.0 at the moment..any suggestions on that endeavor?

Pay your car off and keep it then get rid of it when the 2010 gt come out they will have more hp then our current gt.
why on earth would you pour $$ into a 6 to make it *look* like aGT.. but not perform like one... when you will never get your $$ out of all the dollers you pour into it,. i can never understand why anyone would buy a v6 at $3k less then a GT and proceed to put another $3k into the v6 to make it looks like a GT when you could have bought a REAL GT anyway with the extra $$ spend..

Without reading the other responses, it seems to me the critical information is: What do you expect from your Mustang, be it old, new, GT or V6?

If you like it for what you use it for, why step out of the current car? It's apparently served you well, fulfilled its purpose. At 20,000 miles there's a lot of happy miles left in it, at no monthly payment, one of the most satisfying states to enjoy.

If you are going to change uses, as in going faster for faster's sake, get into a GT as soon as possible; don't postpone the inevitable. All other things being equal, whatever money you'll be paying for the "upgraded" ride will still be available as equity in the one you're paying for, when the 2010s come out (and you'll want to wait a few months after that, to avoid the teething troubles likely to be present in a new model).

Just remember that it's like clothing: the best and most fashionable brands don't always fit best. Be comfortable, and let your attitude show your confidence.

It all depends on what you use the car for. I think you will like the V8 a lot better, just to hear that exhaust sound. There is nothing like it.

Wow man good effort. Ford should give you a medal for doing those kinds of things. (Not being sarcastic.)
i say keep the V6. It will depreciate at a much lower rate than a new GT will which will end up costing you less money. Insurance will be cheaper on a slightly older car, you won't have to worry about car payments and to top it off, you know that everything works. All the bugs have been worked out and you enjoy it don't you? then after analyzing all of the options, the frugal decision would be to keep the V6 and sit on her. If you want to trade in, wait until the '10 models come out while there are still '09's on the lot that way you can pick and choose. You can still keep you V6 at that point though, all up to you buddy. Good luck :bigthumbsup

my opinion is finish paying off the v6 and save what you were paying on that for a downpayment for the '10 Mustang GT.
But keep the v6 after that, no need getting rid of a payed off car
