2006 V6 Differential and Gear Upgrade

1818 Views 8 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  redfire6
Hey there, looking for some advice on what parts I might consider replacing in my 2006 V6 while I have the rear end apart. I'm installing a limited slip diff and some 4.10 gears. I got the install kit with the bearings and gaskets. A guy I talked to about doing it mentioned something about gaskets or bearings on the outside end of the axles? Don't really remember what he had said. Is there anything else I should consider replacing/upgrading? Thanks

Did you get the Yukon Dura Grip or the Eaton Truetrac?

You have axle bearings and seals at the ends of the axle tubes. They should be replaced if you are doing a rear end rebuild. Don't use any bearings made in China.

Important to note if you didn't have 4.10 gears prior:

Those 4.10 gears are going to throw off your speedometer considerably.
Most ford dealerships don't have the settings to sync your speedometer with 4.10 gears.
So make sure you have either a tuner, or know a local shop whom can re-calibrate it for you.
As for advice on additional parts, you may want an upgraded driveshaft at some point.

There's also the Auburn HP Series.

Auburn is junk. I was hoping that he bought one of the others.

I've had no issues with Auburn, everyone to their own I guess.
I owned a rear end business for 15 years and I had many issues with the Auburn. No issues with the Eaton or Yukon.

Which is why I said everyone to their own.
I've had my AD for years, no problems.

I read about the speedo difference. I know of a tuning shopthat should be able to fix it. If not, I guess I will be buying my own tuner.
