2007 Mustang GT, Looking to add Cold Air Intake

I am looking to add a CAI and SCT tuner to my 2007 GT. I would like to hear from anyone with experience with Steeda, JLT and JMS. What sort over power gains did you realize?

JLT is the cheapest and give you the best power gain.
JLT seems to be the favorite. But you cant go wrong with C&L or Steeda also. Id advise to get it from Brenspeed, Bamachips or Tillman. They seem to all have good customer service and strong running tunes. Id say 20hp to the wheels is a good guess. I never had mine dynoed. Just the tune itself will give you great throttle response.
Thanks. I have been leaning toward Steeda the closer I get to having the cash to buy one. I definitely want to know more about JLT before I buy.
I've run both C&Ls (street and race), JLT II, and Powerhouse. All were very good. I liked the JLT II the best (provided the smoothest MAF curve).
I run the Modular Mustang Racing CAI, love mine. Awesome power, did not require a tune (but they recommend one for optimal performance). I did have my 07 computer upgraded at the Ford dealership ($40.00) to clear the check engine light.

Ford Builder Magazine did a test of CAI's and MMR came out on top. www.modularmustangracing.com :bigthumbsup
So do I understand correctly that the JLT II provides smooth throttle response throughout the powerband?

Yes, very much so.
I run a JLT II, but what I don't like about it is the heat shield isn't tall enough. The filter sets higher than the shield and rubbed the underside of the stock hood.
stlwagon, did you encounter the same problem as A Stang Thing?

I did not have that problem with mine.
i will 2nd that, no hood rubbing
Good. Unless I can be convinced otherwise I will be going this (JLT) route and get from Brenspeed as I have read their tunes are more 5speed friendly. Thanks.

I think you'll be satisfied with your choice.

+1 I've had this problem with the JLT, but other than that I love it. I didn't get it dynoed, but the throttle response is awesome, and my cr feels faster. I also noticed a slight gain in gas mileage when I am able to keep my foot out of it and just cruise on the highway. I got my tune from BamaChips (it was part of a package, intake, tuner and three tunes), and would recommend them.
I have the JLT II as well and have not had any problems with the filter rubbing. One of the things I noticed is how much nicer my Flowmaster exhaust sounds. With my S&B intake I used to get a bit of a drone around 40 mph when on power (like up an incline). Not only does the exhaust sound richer, but the drone is gone. Thinking about it, that makes sense. More air through the system changes the harmonics. I've also noticed a slight improvement in gas mileage - 1 or 2 mpg more.
Just to throw one more out there. I went with the Roush CAI and have nothing but good things to say about it. My understanding is that it is made by air raid. Roush just rebranded it. I got 20hp out it with a custom tune from Modular Depot here in KY. I actually just painted it tonight to get the Roush emblem off of it since nothing else on my car is from Roush and didn't go with the Shelby rims and Shifter I have. I mainly got it due to the looks and heat sheild design. It looks more OEM. I just don't like all the chrome and stuff. I do believe it is more expensive than the brands listed below.
TeeBee, Is there the anything in particular about the BamaChips tunes you like? From what I have read others say they are more oriented towards the auto tranny. What are your opinions?

I have a stick, so I can't comment on the improvement to the tranny, but I had to re-tune my computer for the CAI to work properly. I like that my gas mileage went up, and that my car is still drivable with the 87 perf. tune. With the 93 race tune my car feels faster but is too touchy to use in the rain
I've got the Steeda which I tuned myself with SCT Pro-Racer software. Bought everything locally from Steeda. My car runs great and I could not be happier with it.

I looked at the JLT but it looked like cheap PVC hose with a chincy heat shield by comparison. The Steeda shield will actually seal against the hood and isolate the airbox. Much better design in my opinion.
