I went from 3.55 to 3.73 on my '08 GT 5-speed. The dealer wants $95 to update my computer to this axle ratio. I know that this is something that they can do in less than five minutes and probably in the service drive. Do I have any other options? Thanks.

Get yourself a tuner and change it yourself! It will be intially more expensive but the tuner will wake your car up! Look for an SCT with either Brenspeed or Bama's tunes.

chopper,

I already have a Ford Racing calibration because I bought their CAI Power Pack. Their new tuners have an option to change things like axle ratio and stuff, but the dealer told me they didn't come along until late 2008. I bought the car and all the Ford Racing stuff from the dealer in May of '08, before the adjustable tuners came available. I have such an issue with the $95 because it is matter of seconds for them to change it for me...

$95 beats $350. Oh well, I guess that's the way it is. Thanks for the input guys. I do enjoy the 3.73 though!

Check out eBay. You can get a programmer cheap on there. I picked up a ~$600 SCT Livewire for $200....

3.55 to 3.73 is only 5%. Did you notice it much? Many have said it would not be worth the change. I love my 3.73s BTW most of the time. I only wish we had the 0.63 5th instead of the 0.68 gear in the transmission.

Oh, BTW, you can also send your procal tuner back to FRPP for a reflash. Cost is 150. I tried to get a updated tuner out of them but updated procal tools were not for sale separate. I wonder why?

I'm gonna say check out brenspeed. I'd assume you'd have to use your Procal to return to stock settings right before flashing with brenspeed's tune, but i'd ask them that directly. Like chopperman and a few others said its 350 for the initial tune, but if you buy any parts from them they upgrade your tune for free. Its alot a pretty aggressive tune.

On a side note. Ford dealerships want 95 bucks to replace the FRPP's CAI (I have one) but if you have a ford racing parts vendor near you, they charge about 35 for the filter. If you are worried about that cost you may just want to upgrade to a C&L or JLT CAI. Last i knew they both had washable filters.

If you go with a second tuner, you do not have to return to stock. The new tuner will think that the procal tune is stock and copy it into its memory before the flash. How ever, you will have two locked tuners that way. Playing around with two tuners allowed me to get back up copies of both my stock and procal tunes into my computer for "backup" purposes.

Just keep track of what tune set is in which tuner.

Cusp: I do like my 3.73, I did notice change. Like you said, nothing earth-shattering, but definately worth the money to me. I got the gears at Summit for $149, and a local drivetrain specialist to swap them out for me for $300. Not a bad deal. I drive the car every day. I drove a trade-in with 4.10's at the dealership and I'll admit it was great fun, but not practical for me.

MrH08: I agree with you. My FRPP CAI had a paper filter and I went over to Summit Racing in McDonough, GA and had them match up a K&N filter for me. Better than the cheezy filter the CAI came with. BTW, do Bullitts come with the same paper filter in their CAI?
