The other day I got into my Mustang and I had no reverse and third gear is slipping. I have looked around and found a lot of information but I would feel more reliable to here from other mustang owners and get there point of view. I'm at a stand still every shop around here wants 2000 to 3000 for a transmission rebuild, Is it worth it or should I just do it myself. I have some transmission repair experience just not on this specific transmission.

I had mine rebuilt for $2200. It went bad at 140,000 miles. I now have 50,00 miles on the rebuilt one. If you are not sure of what you are doing, I recommend having someone rebuild it.

First of all, if we need a little more info. How many miles are on the car, and have you had any other trans service in the past?
The fluid/filter often needs to be changed before 100k miles,
If the fluid gets low, the trans can start to slip like that. There is no dipstick, but fluid can be added with proper procedure.
