I just completed the installation of the Hurst Billet Competition Plus Shifter on my 2009 Mustang GT. I had read many of the threads complaining about rattling noise the shifter makes. I took all the precautions i could, used loc-tight on the bolts and and used both neoprene isolators the kit comes with to help reduce rattling. Once i took the car out for a spin i noticed that it doesn't rattle under normal driving, but if you get on the throttle at all it rattles loudly. Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to stop this rattling?

I have some rattling on my hurst shifter too. I dont know any fixes neither.

Only way i know to fix that is to keep your hand on the shifter all the time.

I can't believe hurst still hasnt fixed this issue yet.

Mine rattles too but it doesn't bother me most of the time. When the weather warms up I'll try some of these fixes.

thanks for the replies! I will try the lithium grease on the pivot ball since that seems the easiest attempt to fix it. Although we got snow today so looks like i will be waiting a little while to test if it works. Also, the ford racing fix, will that work for the Hurst Billet Competition Plus Shifter?

and does anyone have any experience installing the Ford racing fix kit? if so can you leave the shifter installed on the car to install the fix? I had a hell of a time installing this shifter and don't want to have to take if off and re-install it again.

I love the look of the Hurst shifter but the rattling drove me insane. I do not know of a "permanent" fix. Mpst will agree the rattle will always come back.

Return it while you still can! I wouldn't waste any money on a 'repair kit' when you already paid good money for a product that should be free of problems. Hurst dropped the ball on this one big time!

I considered this but the install was a bit difficult and is not something I want to have to go through again.

I tried to do the install just as the directions indicated and got fed up with trying to slide it in through the trans tunnel. Found with a little finese it slides right around the trans from the underside and turned out to be a super easy install.

Mine only rattles in 1st and 2nd when I'm really on it! Ive found the only fix is to keep your hand on it...

guaranteed fix throw hurst shifter in trash,replace with MGW or STEEDA TRI-AX see problem fixed. :bigthumbsup

I though I read somewhere that the hurst shifter handle would bolt right up to a Pro5.0.?

I've not done this mod so I don't know, but it sounds like the best of both worlds to me.

I had a Hurst Comp Plus and it did the same things... I swapped it with the MGW brand shifter ( I found new one on Ebay for $200.00) and it was the best thing I could have done. It's just a all around better designed shifter....

take the hard red urethane bushing out and replace them with the stock rubber ones. got rid of the rattle (90%) and the short shift is still good. easy fix !

not a bad idea. Do the stock ones fit right into the hurst? same bushing OD? And the latest thing is the shifter has started to squeak when i go from N to 5th. sounds like rubber so i am thinking it is the rubber bushing on the shifter that connects to the transmission linkage. This weekend I hope to get back under the car and spray some lithium grease on it, hopefully that fixes it. I did try spraying the lithium grease on the shifter pivot ball since some other posts said it was a quick fix for the rattle but no such luck. I am trying to go down the line of fixes from easiest to hardest, which would be having to completely uninstall the shifter, which the rubber bushing fix basically does. I will keep you guys posted on my progress.
