My car with the steeda tune and jlt intake against a modified n55 335 with a tune and intake. I won by a little more than half a car and was pulling still. I was enthusiastic at the end because this is a close friend and his car has ALWAYS taken mine. But with the steeda tune I am finally faster than him. The steeda tune is very nice. :bigthumbsup

Thanks for the replies guys. Without the tune from a 20 roll like this he typically put a car length and a half on me or maybe a little more. Now as you can see I beat him and we did it two more times with the same result. I personally dont think a 335 is as fast as many people make them out to be unless they are heavily modded. a light tune like this one from oe tuning isn't going to give them 400 crank hp like their tuners always claim. He says he's putting 350 hp and 360 torque to the crank with his tune and that seems believable. His car also is pretty heavy and my car is a base. I think I'm probably at 340 crank hp right now by the way the car is pulling. For the 700 dollars for a gear change I would just keep my 3.31 and get headers and a mid pipe or a new driveshaft. Number one on my mod list is tires now.

I think a lot of those "stock" or "lightly modded" 335 that go low 12 have more than just a tune like they usually claim. Down pipe, a very aggressive tune, boost controller, and full catback and usually slicks and the 335 can reach 400 rwhp, they responsd well to mods. That's what I think those 335s running low 12s have but they just lie or don't say all their mods.

I paid $499 for my gear install. Parts, labor and warranty included.

The Ford Racing primary car dealer, in St. Louis, quoted $1002. for the parts and labor ($720 labor @$110 per hour). Big difference from VA.:winks
Included 1 year warranty on parts and installation.

The Ford Racing primary car dealer.....
That's the key difference. A local mustang speed shop would have charged around $1000 too. I went to a local driveline shop and paid $480.00 out the door....in San Diego. The gears have worked perfectly, you'd never know that they weren't installed from the factory. Part of my success was reading about another member here who had the install done, then going over to the same shop a month or two later.

I have little doubt that going with 3.73 gears would make more difference than the other stuff you have listed. Although if you did upgrade gears, you'd also want to get another DS.

I used Fastlane Motorsports. They have a great rep in the Mustang community.

I'm still on the stock DS. I've driven around with it for the past 26,000 miles on 3.73 gears. I will replace the DS but haven't yet.

I absolutely love my 3.73 gears and AE DS. I was being quoted in the $600-$700 range for labour from most places but another AFM member suggested a local Ford mechanic who did it for $300. There are deals to be found out there, you just have to hunt for a while haha. There's a guy at work with a 135i but we haven't run yet... it's tough without a track and perennial winter

My WS70 winter tires don't appreciate the new gears when it's dry though...

I also believe that the 3.73 gears are very good performance upgrade. But in la the speed shops like to quote astronomical prices for the most basic things. And a gear change would end up costing 1/5 of a supercharger so at this time I think ill be sticking with 3.31. Plus with the tune every shift I'm at 5000 rpm and up and in the power band. So it's not like I have the extremely long 2.73 gears. I really like being able to get over 30 mpg when I need to as well

On a side note my friend just receive his bama tune and intake for his 5.0 and it's is ridiculous in every way. He fishtails from 2-3 and chirps 3-4 with his stick 3.31 geared 5.0. It is literally un launch able on his 245 stock tires

Exactly, hence the reason you don't go to a speed shop to have your gears changed. Los Angeles has lots of options if you do your homework.

That's a good reason to stay with 3.31's.

If you're interested in good 1/4 mile times stock tires and suspension won't get it done, especially in a 5.0.
