Can someone please shed some light on the main differences between the Base and Premium Interior Quality etc...? becides leather interior. One of C&D's Con was they said the Base had "Low Rent" does the base use cheaper materials? Thanks!!
:confused::?:

Most everything including dash, displays, steering wheel, etc. There are pics of guys upgrading their steering wheels showing the interiors. Search under GT500 steering wheel as these were what they upgraded to. If you got the dough get the GT Premium 400A but no need IMO for the 401a unless you want broken pony on door panel and worn seats at seam. Seems odd that they have 2 premiium options the vehicle and the interior 401A. Get the vehicle in Premium but not the interior finish. Very Confusing if you ask me:im confused:

Just wanted a owners opinion on there base model/any draw backs. Thanks

Almost everything is changed....
A few big ones -
The dash has the my-color thing <-Pretty neat/cool
Ambient lighting <- 99% sure that's only premium

Does anyone know if m$ sync is only in the premium trim?

I almost got a base GT until the wife insisted on leather seats. I am so glad she did. It is so much nicer than the base. Makes the car much more livable on the daily commute.

Yes Sync only comes on the Premium. I have a flash drive plugged in with about 800 songs, a cool feature.

Also Premium comes with the Shaker 1000.

I dont think base GT can upgrade to shaker 1000, or its not an eligible upgrade from what I can tell?

I have the base model but prior to delivery I had a fully optioned '11 V6 as a loaner. The big differences apart from cloth vs leather are that the doors have a vinyl padded insert instead of leather and the door handles are black plastic instead of chrome. The dash is also a grayish plastic instead of the aluminum look from the premium package. I have black and red leather seats so I'm actually happy with the base color scheme since I think the silver and aluminum accents would have been "too much". I had intended to buy an aftermarket dash kit, chrome door pulls and having the door inserts done but the interior has really grown on me so I'm not sure if I'll change anything at all. I kind of wish I had the USB port but it does have an 'aux in' so I can listen to streaming or satellite radio with my phone even with the base stereo, and it does read MP3 CDs.

I forgot to mention the gauges are different but I like them much better than the premium. They are electroluminescent teal over black; only in one color but I find it to be more plesant than the bright white background of the premium and at night the premium gauges look like cheap 10 year old Chrysler 300C 'indiglo' gauges.

I'd highly reccomend trying them both first. Having a nice interior is a high priority to me but I found that just adding leather to the base model and upgrading the wheels to the 18" premium ones allowed me to get everything I wanted without what I didn't and it was much cheaper than buying a premium.

The worst part of the base interior is the Steering wheel. Fix that FIRST, I used a Wheelskin. I like them better than factory wrapped wheels as I like the thick raised "baseball" seem.. I also like the wheel thickness when wrapped.

I also like the "All Black" interior. Classic and mean look. Don't like the WHITE guages & BRIGHT ALUMINUM on the upgraded interior.

TOO BRIGHT in my opinion.

Cloth seats are better in the long run, Wear better and you don't sweat in them. But the leather does look better and you get the leather smell & style that goes with it.

I'd like leather wrapped door panels, not inserts but the whole panel. That would be trick and would look awesome and cover up the large expanses of PLASTIC. I might be doing that down the road. They did it to this one below.

Yeah +1 on the steering wheel. I bought a wheelskin kit as well, I was kind of aprehensive about doing 'DIY' leatherwork but it looks almost stock and is very high quality leather.

Mine has the base interior, the dash is the same soft touch material as on the premium, the hard plastic from previous models is gone. It is all black inside, the steering wheel is really the only drawback (not leather wrapped). It's not bad, and no it doesn't feel low-rent.

Radio is a single disc, am/fm supports sirius sat radio. I'd call the radio adequate, nothing special.

Best thing about it, it has the same 400+ hp motor the premium has. :)

Shaker 1000 is a $1295 upgrade! Not worth the $ for 2 small subs and an extra 500 watt amp and you lose most of your trunk space!

That yellow beast reminds me of a Purge bucket I once saw on an Old SNL skit.

The biggest buzz kill is the steering wheel and door handles (IMO), if you're worried about that they are easily upgradeable.

My buddy just bought an '11 base, I don't really care for the interior but I'm used to my '10 with 401a accent.

For me the extra coin was worth leather and sync. Above that I felt the striped seats, slightly better door panel, shifter and dash that are in the premier accent were worth the $395 I spent.

If you are swaying between base and premium you need to just decide whether you want leather or not, regardless of the other options. You need to sit in a base, premium and one with the 401a to see what you like.

For me the premuim GT not worth the money dosent add a single thing i use in driving my car every day and when it over 100F out that can happen alot were i live leather seats sucks . There only one thing the base GT interior needs and that a leather steering wheel here a pic of the wheel i use in my car (pic of wheel not the inside of my car)

I think if I was going to get one just to play with, I'd get the base model with the Brembos and MT and spend what I saved on the purchase price on mods.
Maybe next time I'll do that. :kooky:

I didn't want the premium originally, but I'm glad I got it. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with the base package. comfortable, practical, has everything you really need. Maybe it's not low rent, but the premium definitely looks and feels more high rent.

The aluminum dash insert is real aluminum (vs plastic), the door latch and steering wheel spokes are real metal of some sort, and of course the leather seats and steering wheel are nice.

I use and appreciate the sync alot more than I thought I would. I don't care about the guage and ambient multi colors, but my loves that feature.

I like the shaker stereo. It's not fantastic and the bass isn't very powerful if you like a lot of thump, but it is well balanced and I like the subs in the door, it helps with staging.

I don't care for the auto dimming mirror, thinking about swaping that for a standard one.

All these "Premium" upgrades are where FORD makes good profit. That is why they bundle them and make it hard to seperate and get just what you want.

I have the base package but would have liked the glass roof. I don't think you can get the glass roof unless you also have the upgraded interior. So a $2000 roof in actuality cost $4000 plus.

Everytime I say to myself I wish I had this or that I remind myself of the killer deal I got on the car -$26K- and that it's the same CAR as what others are driving ---

I love this damn thing....
