2011 GT vs. Cobalt SS

Finally met up with something worth posting about.

So I'm on my way home tonight and just before a passing zone this car comes right up on my butt then backs off, I see the blinker come on and he moves over so I down shift to 4th and hammer it! well this thing is keeping pace with me right up to 120 so I'm starting to wonder "what is this thing?"
He pulls back in behind and we keep going until the next passing zone and when I see him move into the other lane I down shift to 4th again and crush it! this time by 125 he gets almost past me so I see that its an orange Cobalt SS! as he's next to me I hear a blow off valve and a little bit after that I get by him and stay there up to 140 when we slow back down. I tapped my brakes to say good run, he flashed his lights back and took the next road.

Haha that made me laugh thats what I gotta start doing lol "accepting donations for my supercharger fund.":D
wow, to run with a 5.0 that thing was nowhere near stock.

The Cobalt had a blow off valve, so it had some work. That should make the OP feel good.

A friend of mine with a Cobalt SS turbo was running 13.7's stock.

He did a tune and raised the boost, changed the intake and did what he called an up pipe and a down pipe. Still stock turbo, less than $1000 in mods. With drag slicks he'll run low 12's at 113 mph. On street tires it varies because of traction, but he gets 12.7-13.2 in the 111-113 range.

We ARE talking about that little economy girl car that chebby makes right?? Next time that happens, you should stop him and verify that he actually has a cold fusion rocketship propultion system with a rwd conversion, because that is what it SHOULD take for a gaybalt to take a mustang. IMHO.

He was implying that the only way a Cobalt should ever have a chance against a Mustang was for it to have a rear wheel drive conversion and be powered by nuclear reaction. I thought it was pretty funny myself.

What's really funny is the Cobalt SS TC laps the Nurburgring in 8:22.85, which is only 2 seconds behind a Camaro SS. It's faster than a 2010 Mustang GT, a Lotus Exige and a Porsche Cayman S. It's faster than a Ford Focus RS, Mitsubishi Evo VI, VII, VIII and IX. It's even faster than a C5 Corvette. They didn't have a lap time for the 5.0 listed yet, but I'd bet the 5.0 would be within a second or two of the Camaro SS which would be within spitting distance of the little Cobalt. The cobalt holds the record for the fastest front drive car on the Nurburgring.

Motor Trend got a 4.9 0-60 and a 13.5 1/4 mile for the 2010 Mustang GT. They got a 5.3 0-60 and a 13.8 1/4 mile at 102.5 for the Cobalt.

The Cobalt also lapped Sebring faster than a 2009 Imprezza WRX and a 2009 Mitsubishi EVO MR in their road test.

The Cobalt has Brembo brakes as standard equipment.

With a Chevy stage 2 kit that bumps up the boost and changes tuning, it runs mid 13 second 1/4 miles, just like a 2010 Mustang GT Track Pack.

I think the funny thing is people don't take the car seriously. :grinroll:

Tonight I seen the kid who has the Cobalt so I asked him whats done to it?All he said was "stage 3" and then one of his friends asks if I want to race his 91 Civic, I just said NO I don't like to street race but if someone is messing around I'll go for it. So they went off to race a GTI Jetta with the Civic..

i like the hhr panel ss' they are pretty slick looking, one of the guys i know has one with the chevy stage 2 kit, that thing moves pretty good
Hm. Well, although I will admit that I'm impressed by the performance stats, and a little curious why ford allows itself to be outdone, I would never own a cobalt. Not only because it would be the most heinous blasphemous act I've ever committed, but because the one my girlfriend has is the cheapest waste of tin I've ever driven. I drive a fusion, so its not like I'm accustomed to the build quality of a bentley or something, and its night and day. The cobalt feels like its ready to start falling apart at any moment. Its like the saying goes. You can polish (or turbocharge) a turd all you want, but its always going to be a turd. Even my old 93 escort gt felt more solid than them. So unless the ss is a completely different car that just looks like the base model, I still stand by my opinion that they are crap. Just fast crap apparently :bigthumbsup im sorry to go off on a gaybalt bashing tangent, I just don't like em. P.S. I personally doubt that it was a standard SS/TC than ran that time on the nurburgring. Guessing it was one of the lv 2 or 3 ones. Ill look into and will correct myself if necessary.

The Cobalt that tried running with me was a supercharged one with 20+ psi of boost. He's got the stage 3 parts in it but its not tuned for everything. I got to talk to him and he said that he had a jump on me the second time because he knew that was the only way he'd have a chance lol.

You do realize with a maxed out stock turbo, catless exhaust, better IC and intake your typical SS/TC will be a challenge for a bolt-on 5.0 or maxed out stock internal 4.6.
And that even the SS/SC's can do the same?
Maybe know more about what you're talking about next time?

Nah just got bored and figured I'd check my favorite forum for reading things ignorant people say.
And since when is pointing out that a car someone bashes could easily drag them silly sticking up for anything? And not pointing out reality?
