There is way too much hype and confusing info on the internet regarding how the new 2011 Mustang 5.0 GT runs against the Comaro SS.

I would like to hear from folks who actually drag raced the Comaro SS with a new 5.0. What is the truth? How does the new Mustang perform against the Comaro SS in the 1/4 mile, or zero to 100 mph?

I would be interested in this also, because at the end of Motor Trend's video the mustang and camaro are almost exactly crossing the line at the same time! I wonder who would win if they went long on the track You got the mustang with slightly less HP but having a weight advantage, then you have the camaro ss with it's disadvantage being its weight and slightly more hp, but worse aerodynamics

08darkcandy, lol I knew that Our Auto's will blow the l99 camaro away!:laughlitt But what do you think about us stacked against their manual SS Camaro? Do you have any tunes on yours yet?

auto 5.0 vs auto ss isn't really a fair comparo

manual vs manual; I'd like to see more of those drag races..mustang should be a tad faster on paper but it's a definite driver's race

glad you asked. first off keep in mind right when the camaro came out with the 400bhp auto people were having a hard time outruning the 4.6L gt from 2010. and for the manual ls3 in the SS its best time is 12.9 but more realistically 13.0-.2. The 5.0 can run a 12.8 with a decent driver and correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure that the bone stock record with the 5.0 is 12.66 in the 1/4 mile. 0-60 for 5.0 is 4.4, compared to 4.7. also keep in mind the 5.0 makes MORE power and has better gears for acceleration; on a lighter platform.
and incase you saw the car and driver review with the ss vs the 5.0, dont even bother reading it, those old men couldnt drive to save their lives.

The LS3 6M 2010 Camaro makes 422hp and is over 200lbs heavier than the 5.0 2011.

There are stock 6M cars in the 12.60s in really good air.

Keep in mind, those slug L99 (400hp) cars are totally different with a TCM (trans control) tune. The stock Torque Management and shift parameters are horrible.

All that said, the Mustang is cheaper to make fast. The drive-line in the Camaro/G8 is weaker and more expensive to upgrade.

I have seen all of the YouTube videos, and I do not believe a pro Chevy guys were driving the Comaros. There is a video of a street race between a 5.0 and a Z28 that has the Comaro wining.

In my opinion, the real facts lie with regular folks who have driven the 5.0 against the Comaro.

My 5.0 GT is due in early August, and I would like to believe that it can eat an SS Comaro.

1) The 5.0 AT vs SS AT is a landslide in the Mustangs favor. Wow. Ford can mate the same engine to both a manual and automatic transmission? It's like MAGIC! Remember when GM couldn't put a manual in the 350 Camaro and Firebird GTAs in the 80's? Pathetic.
2) The 5.0 MT vs SS MT is a tight race. Good drivers should go faster in the Mustang. But, like, even if you could go faster in the Camaro...you would be going faster in a Camaro. Is it really worth that for a few tenths? No, it isn't.

All things being equal, the 5.0 is gonna win everytime. The one thing that is never equal is the driver, so it's gonna be a drivers race everytime. No matter how good you are, there is probably somone else who is better. Just hope you don't run up against him. Not that it really matters, because most anyone who races at all (street or track), is not gonna be stock. He with the most money wins. Don't matter there either, you can drive a cartoony looking camaro or a sexy Mustang. You can give your money to gov't motors, or the only manufacturer who didn't take bailout money.

In short, with practice you can beat an SS, but stock for stock you won't "eat" one, just edge him out by a car length if he is an equal driver and you both make good runs. When you do, please post about it. I love hearing about chevies getting burnt! Congrats on your new 5.0!

5.0 smokes the Camaro off the road. What else do you need to know? You Tube videos prove it.

the thing i dont like about all of those videos from motortrend and them are all the cars in the tests are conducted by professional drivers. id like to see how the cars stack up against each other with your adverage joe in the drivers seat. you gotta think, not everybody can drive as good as those guys in the tests.

Most commaro owners even acknowledge over on camaro 5 that a track pack lowly 10 is a drivers race with the auto ss.

Now think real hard...

With the 5.0 the wins will go to the mustang everytime. Auto for auto manual for manual driver for driver (all things being equal).

A story of a marrow winning will always ba a driver issue with the 5.0 or a modded martow

That's a Challenger behind the Mustang and Camaro in the Motor Trend review? I thought it was the camera crew judging by how far back it was :p. I love the look of the Challenger but, damn that's a big paper weight.

:kooky:not seeing a lot of camaro owners really "driving" their cars, either on the street or the track (actually havent seen a newer one at the track yet) I suppose they're tired of getting their @sses kicked or handed to them
