2011 Mustang GT paint problem

I just noticed a run in the paint on my car on the top of the right fender. It's pretty bad but I'm not sure if I should take it back to the dealer.I'm loving my car otherwise and dont really want to be without it while they repaint it.It's about 3" long and I cant believe it was missed by QC.I did'nt notice it when I picked it up from dealer as I had my Daughter and did not go over it in any detail before taking it home.

I think I will atleast take it back and show them so they are aware of it and I'll decide then what if anything to do about it.

i have a performance white 2011 gt as well and also have a run of paint along my passenger side rear fender. it is small though like 1/2 and inch maybe? take it to the dealer, it constitutes as an imperfection and if they don't want to do anything about it a respectable body shop will be able to take care of pretty cheaply.

I have noticed several areas on my Kona Blue where it looks like the paint was not mixed right or the coat underneath was contaminated. Kind of a oil slick like pattern to it, but I only noticed it when I waxed it. Not a big enough deal to take it back, but I am still not happy. I should show the dealer so they can feed that back.

It's one of those things that just bugs you knowing it's there.I'm not a super detail kind of guy but more into performance than looks so I can live with it but I'm sure others will not. Thanks for the input guys and thats interesting to see that another performance white car has the same issue.Well I gotta look out for the Fed ex truck because my Steeda CAI is comming today:gringreen

I have a Kona Blue GT & haven't noticed this problem at all yet.Although i haven't waxed it yet.Don't know why that would cause the issue.

While we're on the subject what brand or type of wax have you used? Also what type of material are you using for wax removal?
Are you using a buffer or removing the wax by hand?

I may be crazy but it seems to me that the clear coat seems overly sensitive.I removed some bugs from my bumper with quick detail wax & a soft cotton cloth. When i was finished i noticed that there seemed to be scratches in the areas i just cleaned. Now how the hell do i remove the scratches without causing more?

Any info or recommendations in this area would be appreciated!

Meguiar's Scratch-x 2.0 with a foam or microfiber applicator will remove the scratches. Buff off with a good quality microfiber. It may leave a slight haze that will need to be polished and waxed. www.adamspolishes.com is the best stuff on earth.

While waxing for a show & shine I also noticed a small hazy looking area on the hood of my Kona blue Vert. Hmm I guess It is back to the dealer.
I bought some Quixx at Walmart. I had some scratches on my passenger side door and it took them out. Go on amazon and read the reviews.
I have not waxed the 2011, but I always use Meguire's and have never had a problem. Be CAREFUL if you have a buffer. I prefer to do everything by hand.

I also see some paint imperfection in the middle of the rear bumper of my Kona Blue GT. I figure I'll wait until I need to go to the dealer to get it looked at.

Thanks for tips guys.I'm paranoid now about trying too much & screwing it up!I was really surprised that what i did put scratches in it the clear coat!:yelwacko:

I really haven't noticed any paint imperfections on my car.I know it does some color change & can look different depending on the light. Are you guys sure this isn't what your seeing?Things like this you just don't notice right away.I'll check mine over again to be sure though!

The waxing did not cause the spots, it is in the paint itself. Any of you ever use metalic testers model paint and not mix it enough? That is what it looks like. I also found a few pieces of crap in the paint, too. Ford QA needs to start paying more attention to the painting phase.

As for bugs, I use Meguire's quick detailer and a microfiber towel. Just let the bug soak. It might have been road grit that scratched the clear coat. You can feel the grit if you touch the car gently. Before washing I ALWAYS give it a thorough rinse with a powerful hose. If you have a well the pressure might not be high enough, but city water seems to be.

My procedure:
-Put car in shade and wait till it is cool.
-strong rinse, especially on front.
-Meguire's Gold soap and microfiber tentacle thingy washing mitt from somewhere. I apply very little pressure, and prefer to let bugs soak till they just come right off. After every panel I hit the mitt with the hose to remove any crap.
-Unroll a "TheAbsorber" Shammy and slap it flat on the surface. Slowly drag it across and it will leave nothing but dry Mustang. Wring out and repeat. I got a yellow one so I can see if there is any dirt still on the car. I immediately hit the Shammy with the hose if I see anything show up and make sure it is clean.
-Wax with a Meguire's microfiber applicator and Mother's Carnauba Wax. By hand. I do not want to be taking the risk of losing my grip on a buffer, or having to watch out for the wire dragging on the paint or getting caught up while I am moving the thing. It is not that big of a car to do by hand.
-If it gets dusty after that I use a microfiber towel and Meguiare's Quick Detailer spray with very light pressure.

Oh, and the Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detailer bottle I have has a new style black Mustang on it. How cool is that!

I have found a defect in my paint as well. It looks like a hair under paint on the bumper. I took it to the dealer this morning and they agreed and are going to strip and re-paint the bumper. It is hardly noticible without the right light and shadow, but something like that would drive me crazy for years to come if I knew it was there.

On a somewhat relate note, does any else seem to have a crazy amount of orange peel in the paint or is it just mine? It is not bad in direct sunlight, but as soon as you look at it at an angle or in the garage, it is horrible. I have not waxed it yet, I was planning on doing that tonight, will that help tone down the carzy orange peel?

Seems like Ford clearly tried to cut some costs in the paint area....not acceptable on this expensive of a car IMHO.

Welcome to Ford paint jobs. My F-150 is the same way. QC does need to improve in paint related items on Fords. The paint on my Chrysler is flawless.
orange peel

Now you are not going to believe it but.

My Porsche cayman had Zero orange peel. I still traded it on a black GT. I have some orange peel I will live with it.

I am much happier with the ride and 400hp of the Ford.

SSMV650.

Sorry to read about the paint defect. I had a door alignment issue (corrected by my dealer) but paint is perfect.

I'm sure if it is significant your dealer will correct. The only problem, of course, is that will force repainting. On a brand new paint job I wouldn't worry too much about matching, though you will probably hear some pretty dissuasive horror stories.

My last half dozen Fords have all had pristine paint. Sucks that the halo car in their lineup can ever be shipped with on obvious defect.

Good luck!

I have a paint defect on my hood the size of a bb it looks like some very small cracks in the paint. I know if I take it to the dealer they will probably say the entire hood will have to be repainted. It is so small I don't know if it would be worth it.
Hyundai has a patent on the best paint system. Too bad Ford cant design one of its own that is first rate. Just the facts.
