Hello fellow Mustangers! I am in a bit of a dilema, and was wondering if you can help me out here! I want your advice and opinions! I am looking at purchasing a 2011 GT Convertable that is on a dealers lot! I am not looking to order, as the 2012 order guide does not have an "all" parchment interior; instead its just the seats and door inserts! The Mustang in questiion is brand new with 25m on the odo, but it has the rear wing with the integrated rear camera! What I want to do is have the dealer install the front and rear GTCS valances, hood scoop and pedestal wing, as I like that look very much! This is where my question comes in, has anyone retained the factory rear camera and installed a pedestal GTCS wing, and where did they relocate the camera?? In advance, thx for your suggestions and opinions!

Don't think its gonna work. The rear spoiler is specially designed for the camera. In my opinion its the nicest of all the spoilers, but thats a personal thing. Your only other option would be a license plate mount.

I certainly like aesthetic changes, but the Ford rear-view camera implementation in the mirror is fantastic. Now that I've had it, I would never want to be without it in a car.
+1!

I ordered it and thought it might be a waste - turned out to really cool. And I agree that the spoiler they include with it is the best one of the bunch. Just MHO though...

One way to look at is if you keep the camera spoiler and change the rest you'll have a totally unique beast.

Plus having had that type of pedestal spoiler before on my 2009... looks great from the outside but they can get on your nerves from the inside, you are always having to squirm around to be sure you are seeing around it, or you think for a split second something is really close behind you. I had mine over two years and never really got over being a little distracted by it.

The camera mounted spoiler is on my "want" list because I also think it's the best option, but my car came with the standard spoiler. I have the reverse sensor system and love it. I've also noticed, I hardly ever use my rear view mirrow when going in reverse, so the sensors are better for me. I'll get the spoiler though because I love how it looks.

Does anyone know if it uses the same mounting holes on the trunk as the standard spoiler?

I used to make fun of people who automatically got every option under the sun. Not getting the camera was a mistake as I've already bumped into something despite going very slow in reverse and looking over my shoulder. My only regret.

If it's like every other backup camera, you can see things that are normally below your normal field of view. About a week after I bought my last car, I failed to notice a 4x4 post before getting into the car and it was too low to see from inside. That was a $450 mistake. It's rare, but there are also plenty of cases of toddlers being backed over when they crawl behind the car. Of course, the inattentive parents are usually to blame, but blame doesn't matter when the kid's dead. I definently see backup cameras as a good thing.

I have both the camera (with the NAV:bigthumbsup) and backup sensors and they've saved me already. I was backing into a spot dropping my kids off at school when the sensors went off, some c*** whipped into the spot behind me, it was obvious I was backing in. The camera was handy too, because I could identify the face of the next jerk that was going to get punched out. ;)lol

The spoiler isn't too intrusive. I personally like it, because it flows well with the car. The backup camera was a HUGE plus for me, because it gives me a better view of what's behind me.

Thx Guys, appreciate all the input, and I think I will just go to my old dealer back home in L.A. and order it the way i want it, out of the box! I'll have GAS install the supercharger and Brembos! The one at the dealer here in PHX is nice, white with parchment int! But I think I want the Lava with saddle int! So tired of seeing silver Mustangs here in AZ and Black ones in L.A.!!! And I so wish that FORD offered color choices on CLOTH seats for desert states, as well as better radiators to boot!

I don't even turn my head when backing up anymore because that camera sees more than I can no matter what way I contort my head/neck to see behind.

It was one of those "sure why not" options and after using it just 1 time, was like HOW did I ever live without this!!

For the price, if ordering the car, you have the check that box.

there's a front camera as well?
You don't get it?

He backs in instead of pulling in to save himself from hitting the front splitter on curbs. Makes sense to me.

Not to sound like Elmer the Safety Elephant but it's almost ALWAYS a better/safer back into a spot than pull in, because
  • when you arrive:
    • you can look into the spot and get a better view of pedestrian traffic in the area
    • you're less distracted
    • other drivers and pedestrians can see you
  • when you leave
    • you're more likely to be distracted (putting on a seatbelt, adjusting the radio, in a hurry)
    • people/other drivers can't see you until you move so you can use the better visibilty to your advantage
I amost never pull into a spot, I always back in. I learned my lesson early in my driving career, I was backing out my old car just idling, got ran into by a dude in a brand new car that was racing through the parking lot. If I had been pulling out instead of backing out I wouldn't have been blind from the HUGE d-pillars in my own car and probably would have seen him and stopped.

Having the reverse camera makes it even easier.
