I've had my car for about a year now and i am looking on getting some performance upgrades, firstly i was going to get a cold air intake and exhaust, i already have my exhaust sorted out, but i was wondering which CAI would be most recommended for the best increase in horsepower and torque.

This is already being talked about in another thread on CAI with a poll. So far AirRaid seems to be killin it in votes but here are the numbers of the CAI's with a bama 93RaceTune.

Air Raid
-22HP
-30TQ

C&L
-21HP
-29TQ

JLT
-22HP
-32HP

The general consensus is this, either Airaid or JLT. I highly recommend the airaid, I have it in my 2011 V6 and it's freakin awesome... but JLT also comes very highly recommended.

Those numbers were all with a tune, won't pick up that much by itself.

And all those CAI's listed, that don't require a tune, are close enough in power to call it a dead heat.

So, basically it comes down to which one you like the looks of best.

Ltngdrvr is dead on balls accurate. I honestly DO feel a power increase with just the CAI, but it might be the "sound" of the CAI playing a mental trick on me. the TUNE + CAI is where it's at... I took a spin in HappyDad's auto v6 (another forum member) and the tune was an AMAZING improvement.

For looks purposes, if you want to keep a somewhat "stock" look go with the AIRAID system. If you DO NOT want it to look "sort of stock" then go with the JLT because the carbon fiber tubing is gorgeous under the hood.

Since all the intakes require a tune to make power, and since the tuners themselves have said they make no adjustment in tuning for a CAI, I am going to go out on a limb here and say do it for the sound. :gringreen

It voids warranty, but that shouldn't necessarily stop you. There are numerous threads on this forum regarding this exact topic, there are apparently "ways around it."

Airaid is winning overall in the looks department, as it appears as clean as if the factory had installed it. JLT is a bit less "sealed" and somewhat clunky in appearance, but as you can see, it produced 2 extra TQ in one of the dyno tests. Airaid also has the reputation for sounding more burly.

I personally run a JLT and love it, but based on what I've read (i.e. overall concensus) you'd probably be most aesthetically and audibly pleased with the Airaid. I doubt you'd notice a 2lb TQ difference anyway, and there's no guarantee you'd have exactly the same results with your car anyway.

Go with Airaid.

One or two HP or TQ is within the margin of error on the dyno so that is a wash, not a difference worth considering.
Yeah that's what I'm saying.... if someone chooses JLT because they think the carbon fiber looks cool (which I personally agree with) then it makes sense... but to buy it for the power difference, sort of illogical.

I vote for the JLT. Despite what I've heard, I was impressed by the quality of the item. The installation was a breeze, and I think it looks killer. :)

But as the other posters have said. They are pretty much so close that looks and price should be your biggest concern. But I do think that JLT dyno'd 1 or 2 points higher than the rest.

I'd go with the tuner too. American Muscle has some nice combos on sale and Bama tunes are wicked fun. Make you feel like you're driving a different car:bigthumbsup Well worth the money.

I'm for JLT as well. I guess everyone is going to pick the one they have, and I think Airaid is the least expensive, so that's the best choice. What hooked me on the JLT were the independent dyno results that were released relatively early, and the carbon fiber build. Epic sound with WOT.

I like the JLT as well, my buddy has it and it's sweet. There is a small gap where the intake tube comes into the airbox though, but it doesn't seem to effect it in any way.

I might pick up a JLT in the future to see which one I like better, but so far I love my airaid.

Any mod could void part of your warranty if it is determined to have caused some problem.
Absolutely right! I spoke with the manager of the Service Dept where I bought my stang. He said, "I wouldn't worry about it. People bring cars in here all the time with mods/tunes, especially Mustangs, and I've never voided their warranty." It has to be PROVEN that the mod/tune CAUSED the failure.
