2012 gt 5.0 cloth seats

So I'm getting a new 2012 5.0 and I want leather seats but don't want to spend around $5000 on the premium package. Are the cloth seats in the base model comfortable? I am more interested in the performance of the car. Is it really worth the extra $5000 to upgrade to the premium package?

it was for me. However the differences are:

Sync/Shaker500
upgraded interior
upgraded seating surfaces (not fantastic leather, but better than typical ford fare)
Upgraded steering wheel
and onward.

If the premium is 5k more and the features don't grab you, then I'd skip it.

Thanks I don't really like cloth seats especially the cloth seats in the 05-09 mustangs. But the cloth interior in the new Mustangs seem like they are better quality. Is Microsoft sync pretty cool?
for me i choose to get a v6 with premium package, interior upgrade package etc...everything except the glass roof and the nav, when i could of got a base model 5.0... but thats only because i would probably end up in jail for having 5.0, and the insurance and gas etc are higher for it

Ha I thought about getting a v6 too but I'm planning on doing a lot of modifications on my mustang and figured the v8 was an overall better choice.
I had leather in my 04....hated it. Surprised by the cloth seats as some in the past have been very crappy but like the cloth in the 2011!
I actually was up in the air on Premium versus Base with my GT. In the end I talked myself into the Premium.

Do not test drive a Premium if you want the Base, the better steering wheel alone is a huge difference lol.

Also the price diference is only about $3600.

I went back and forth between the base and the premium, before deciding on the premium. However, if the price difference was $5K, the outcome may have been different. The base model that I was looking at was right around $26.5K and and the premium was just over $29K, so the difference was only ~$2500. After sitting in the premium, I was really turned off by the base, especially the steering wheel. It also helped that I got to the dealership after dark, and the MyColor lighting really wow'd me. I'm a tech geek and really want Sync also. All that combined and I am very happy with my decision to go with the premium. -Thomas
Leather interior from e-bay-299, new wheel, maybe 350?I got the Boss wheel ordered for 155.That gives you alot of wiggle room for whatever aftermarket radio/nav system for well below the 5 grand difference. Go base model.
I went premium on my 2010 and base w/brembo's on my 2011....

I find the leather seats to be VERY flat... I slide all over them! So I planned on upgrading my seats anyways...

The my color gauge cluster is like 350.... the aluminum dash kit is less than 200... the chrome door handles( I could take or leave as they show so many fingerprints) the pedals ( I don't remember if they are part of the prem. package or the track pack I had) are under 100, I just found a few months used GT500 wheel for 200...

OP, I felt that all of the upgraded options were not worth it; sure they were nicer than the base... but I felt that they weren't good enough to be 'premium'. People are unhappy with the way their leather is wearing on threads here already! :/

If you ever feel like changing things.. I would go with the base as is makes it less painful taking out parts you paid a premium for. ;)
I got the base with the intention of getting the boss recaros or gt500 leather recaros. Glad i did because im already sliding all over the place the way i drive.:bounce2: Stock seats should be more supportive.
Premium adds
Leather seats, power driver seat, sync, shaker 500 audio, My color, leather steering wheel, 6 gauge cluster instead of 4, usb, bluetooth. i am sure i missed some. you are missing out on way too much stuffs if you get the base. Well worth the 4 grand. But if you have to choose v6 premium or v8 base, i will gladly choose the base :)

The cloth seats are very good. The leather is too slippery for hard cornering due to the minimalist bolsters. The cloth doesn't have hot/cold issues if you have cold winters or hot summers. My preference is the cloth. Unfortunately life doesn't always go along and my wife decided to sometimes take our small dogs in the Stang and the cloth is like Velcro to dog hair. So I switched to new-car takeoff factory leather. You can find them on the internet for around $300. They can be a DIY install or have a shop do it.
I have a GT with the base interior. Don't miss the hot leather seats at all. I was recently in Hawaii and drove 3 different V6 Mustang Convertibles. 1 base and 2 premium. Nothing impressed me with the upgraded interiors except the steering wheel. I recently changed mine with a SVT wheel for $250. The mycolor dash should match the center console. The sync can be substituted with a Motorola T605 for $45, power seat isn't an issue if you never move it, base stereo can be upgraded for a few hundred to better than Shaker, and what gauges am I missing?(don't notice). The brighter dash is a problem in the sun.

Sometimes its not about what you can afford, but is it really worth it? If the premium package included climate control, I would have upgraded.

Take the extra money and go to Hawaii. That's worth it.
I have the base model, and have no problem with the cloth seats. If I had more disposable income, I would have gotten the premium for all the other creature comforts (steering wheel, MyColor, sync). But overall, very happy with my decision on the base model.
Sure, they'll both give you the real prize, the engine, and the price difference is certainly something to think about but there's just so much fun s*** on the Premium. Interest rates are great right now so I went 72 months so I could afford to get exactly what I wanted with all the whistles and bells this time around. I also really got stuck on the looks of the cars with the HIDs so that sort of decided things for me too.

This is my first car ever with leather seats and ironically that's the only part I wasn't that nuts about upfront but I really like them. No signs of any funny wear so far either.
Get the base with the cloth seats...its a mustang, there will be/already are plenty of aftermarket options that may get you there cheaper. I had the chance to get a premium model and decided against it for the reasons already mentioned here...aftermarket seats will get you there (and most probably be better than stock leathers).

its easy to just get the premium and roll it into the loan but figure saving $20 here $50 there a month and every few months you can do the upgrades, seats, stereo, brakes, etc. and it comes out better than factory. That said, if i had NO intention of modifying my car, i would have opted for the premium model. Either way, you will be a happy camper!!!!

Wow if prices were like that in California I would go with premium too. Where I live it would cost around $29k for the base and about $32k for the premium and thats after bargaining a little bit.

Thanks how do you like your flow masters? Did they boost your horse power?

Thanks this was really helpful. As much as I like leather seats what you are saying does make a whole lot of sense. However I do really like how the dash lights up when you shift gears :)
