2012 Mod Plan Needed

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and a first time pony owner...I'm really happy about it!

I just acquired a convertible 2012 black on white on black 3.7. I bought a base model and I'm planning to upgrade.

My plans for cosmetic stuff is pretty easy to figure out - I'm thinking about the usual stuff - led lights, brake kit, rims, etc. Any thoughts here are good.

However, here is my real question - what is the best performance mod plan? My goals are modest. I don't really want to race or go to the track. I do want to tweak up the power, make it growl, pump up the acceleration, and up the sportiness of the handling...I love to drive hard.

So how do I prioritize my plans? I'm not a tech guy or a wrench turner so this is tricky for me. The things that I'm thinking about are
- Cold air intake
- Headers
- Performance catalytic converter
- Performance exhaust
- Better plugs and wires
- Bigger wheels and low profile tires
- Maybe some suspension upgrades?
Is that a good list? What am I missing? What should I do first?

Also, any pointers on where get all this done is helpful - are there particular types of shops I should look for??

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Happy holidays all!!

I am sure that there will be a lot of opinions on this but I did rear spoiler and louvers first. Then Roush rear valence. Next was wheels, tires and suspension. And then painted 5,0 badges and tinted tail lights. I avoided mods to the engine and drive train to prevent warranty issues.

Drive the car like you bought it,when your warranty expires with Ford then MOD what ever you like, otherwise you might have a warranty issue, and you don"t want to loose the Ford warranty that you paid for.

Pop over to the 3.7 section for more details to get ideas. Here's what I'd do:

Performance:
3.73 gears, tuner, CAI, throttle body, catback exhaust, driveshaft

Suspension:
Springs, shocks/dampers, sway bars, lower control arms, adjustable panhard

Looks:
Leather take off seat covers, premium steering wheel, stubby antenna, wheels, Stillen splitter and boss diffuser.
- Cold air intake
- Headers
- Performance catalytic converter
- Performance exhaust
- Better plugs and wires
- Bigger wheels and low profile tires
- Maybe some suspension upgrades?

Intake AND TUNE (air raid CAI and BAMA tuner if they get intune
Gears (3.55s or more performance 3.73s
New bigger rims and tires (I would look at the tire/ rim pkgs at AM)
LCAs J & M work well
shocks struts which would be koni str.t or koni sports or for coil overs KW V1 or V3 or BC racing BR coil overs
LT Ceramic headers and catted x pipe (BBK ceramic headers with BBK catted X)
Axle backs depending on changing the sound (personal choice)
Drive shaft should be primary if you plan on going past 113mph

Screw the plugs and wires... 0 gains NA and no high flow cats on stock set up
- Cold air intake
- Headers
- Performance catalytic converter
- Performance exhaust
- Better plugs and wires
- Bigger wheels and low profile tires
- Maybe some suspension upgrades?

If he plan"s to go over 113 MPH he bought the wrong model Mustang.

Really? I have had my MKIV Jetta at 120+ plenty of times. A 3.7 would rape my sad 180hp 1.8t

And the APR Stage 2 GTI I had. He is referring to the driveshaft which is easy to replace if you're worried about it.

Yea but the two piece is a POS there has been a few snapping jus be safe rather then sorry and no if you plan going past 113 mph you bought a good car for it:)
Suspension, tires, and brakes FIRST. If you make it go faster without proper supporting mods, you're gonna kill yourself, or at the very least decorate a tree or light pole with your car.

Next, replace the drive shaft.

Finally, make it go fast. If you want a substantial increase in speed, you're going to have to go with a ProCharger. and new exhaust system. The procharger comes with (?) a CAI and a tune.

If you have the base car, you might also want to consider a rear gear change.
I have a question that I would like an answer too,I am not trying to start an uproar but looking for a logical answer. The 6 banger Mustang is a very nice car as it sits,BUT why buy a 6 banger and then spend all the $$$$$ in so called MODS to make it go faster and handle better, along with a deep exhaust note, when you could just have bought the GT and had it ALL in the first place. My thoughts are if you just want a nice good looking Mustang to Just drive around in get the 6 Banger Mustang,if you want a go FAST Performance Mustang get the GT or Shelby Mustang + you don"t risk your warranty with Ford over the Mod issue,I don"t understand buying a 6 Banger and adding all that $$$$ to try and get GT or Shelby performance.

I will tell you my opinion.
Im 18 and at the time 17. My deal eith my dad was if i kept up with my lawn business good grades, no drinking smoking or drugs. Basically a good moral kid i got a new car. His logic behind it is new car= newest safety features for me. Plus he is trying to start me out the best he can... I do not have to worry about the car breaking down. He is not very performance oriented guy. Had a 1983 camaro (v6) then 91 rx-7 non turbo then some beater then 01 nissan frontier. Where i am very performance oriented and like racing. When i narrowed my choice down to a mustang. We found basically 2 cars a loaded coupe that was 28k and a base stang for like 21k. The first one had a PP and the second didnt. I said well if im spending 28k can we just get a gt he said no way too much power. Plus i dodnt like the stang fuly loaded. So i got the 21k. Looking at insurance and as a secodary driver it would be 4k for me. Compared to 2k.
Now onto my modding. It is my first car. I hear everyone always go there is nothing like your first car. And the deal was new car= no modding. Well soon that ended. Now im gettin into it heavily... Gears, rims and tires, suspension. He said why dont you just trade it in and get a gt. i thought about it a lot. Almost went looking. But inthe end it is my first car and i want to keep it for ever. I will never have a first car again. So i will mod this one.

Some other people mod their v6 because they want to be a sleeper and knock down v8 guys who talk crap (not you)

Others and partially me want to mod a car that describes them selves and hey a quick six might or might not describe you

Those are my opinions. Do i wish i had 400 horses to start with yes. But am i happy and content with building mine and making the car MY OWN totally.
Oh plus v6s out handle/ handle a bit better then gts...
I forgot who did the lightning lap but the v6 pp was not to far behind the gt. and reason it was not closer was because of the speed limiter

Why didn't you just buy a Shelby?

It did beat the 2010 GT despite the limiter too.

Reason is I don"t like the look"s of Shelby & 2013 front end,so the GT was my choice in the look"s and HP dept.

My reason for the v6 was that I liked that the straight line performance was equal to the 2010 GT, out handled it and got nearly 30mpg. I got my v6 premium for $25,500 out the door. Despite all my mods, I still haven't spent what it would have cost to buy a premium 5.0 let alone a base 5.0. Really the on difference between a 5.0 and a 3.7 is the motor. Most everything aftermarket is interchangeable.
