Dear all

I've just ordered my new 2012 Stang and it should arrive here in Switzerland in October... :gringreen

To get it ready for the street (unfortunately) many modifications have to be done.
Main issue, the yellow parking/side lights are not allowed. The have to be white!
I was wondering if a replacement like this would solve the problem, Unfortunately I was not able to find the detailed technical specs about this headlights.

Any help/suggestion is welcome.

if your talking about the turn signal in the actual housing itself, you can replace the Amber bulb that is in it, with a clear/white bulb. if your talking about the lower parking lights that is in the bumper, that would take a new housing because the glass/plastic casing is tinted yellow. there should be clear/tinted ones out eventually, but i doubt there are any out yet..

hope this makes sense

Hi and thanks for your reply.

The lower parking lights (marked in green) are no issue, that's allowed. I'm talking about the turn signal in the actual housing. On one side it has to be yellow (for turn signal) and on the other side it has to be white (for side lights).
Now, is the glass/plastic (marked in red) tinted yellow or is it clear/white? If it's white then I could easily replace one bulb by a white one.

thanks

Hi
I have a 2011 Mustang Gt and i also live in Zurich. I dont understand what your problem is. I have the same car totally legal here and I did not have to do any mods to those indicators. It has to be white for side lights?? .. I dont understand what you mean. From which dealer you bought the car? Feel free to PM me

Similar regulations apply in the UK - white side lights.

Therefore for the SVA in the UK a small white bulb is usually inserted in each headlamp cluster - pain in the proverbial as they have the potential to let in water. If you magnify this image they can be seen in the top corners of the enclosure.

I have changed my side makers to clear lenses but apparently thats not good enough as the angles are not as per the regulations. :cursing:

The light enlosures as per your post are very interesting and I will certainly be keen to know your results on this as UK and Euro regs are fairly well alaigned - well almost.

Mykap you exactly got my point :bigthumbsup

I also not want to put these additional bulbs into the headlight cluster because of the well known water issue...
Is your Stang a 2011? I'm not sure wheter something has changed for 2012 model. Specially if the glass/plastic marked in red is tinted yellow or if it's clear (comment from 5.0inAK).
Furthermore I don't know the detailed specs of this headlights.

Maybe our US friends could tell more about...

thanks

Both the side markers and the headlight housings have orange lenses. A bulb swap wont change the color. You will have to replace them.

Luckily, both can be replaced with aftermarket parts to change the color.

Here's an example for side markers: They come in all different shades from clear to smoked to black.
Mustang Clear Turn Signal Lenses & Sidemarkers

Here's a thread with some good pics(One of the guys posted here) about the install:
http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forums/2011-mustang-talk/257560-side-marker-lenses.html

Here are some pics from my (dirty) car showing them up close:

The rear-side markers are red, I don't know if that's an issue: (I don't know your rules regarding rear side markers)

And the taillights look like this (I don't know if it's an issue.....once again, I don't know your rules regarding taillights)

Here's a link showing some euro taillight stuff for the 05-09 mustangs. I do not know how this applies to the 10-12 mustangs, but it's something to think about.
http://mustangsva.co.uk/2009/04/01/mustang-rear-light-units-uk-europe/

I hope that helps! There are plenty of websites to buy different side markers & headlight housings. Hopefully you will find one that meets your regulations. The one I provided was just an example, I have not bought from them.

*EDIT* Sorry for the huge pictures.....I did most of this from my phone & can't edit them smaller right now

Hi Arak-nafein and thank you for all the detailed information and pictures.

All the sidemarkers and even the taillights are no issue here in Switzerland. It's really just the yellow glasses in the headlight.
I will now try to find out more details about the replacement headlights wich I have mentioned earlier in this thread.

thanks

Dear all

I've checked the specification of the mentioned headlights toghether with StangMods and my local dealer. In the picture you can see the configuration of this headlights.
All I've marked in the picture is correct except the DRL.
According to StangMods, these headlights do not have DRL and most of their customers use it as a second parking light, but
according to my dealer it could easily be configured as DRL.

So tha's a real and cheap (~ $ 350.-) option for all Europe Mustang fans.

thanks to all

That's gotta be the most jacked-up law I've ever heard of, and coming from Kalifornistan(the place where we elected an admitted Socialist who basically had a city ripped from his mayor-ship, right before he buried it for good) that's saying a lot. Yellow is the international color for changing lanes on the front of the car. And they're that way for a reason..If it's at night and your headlights are on, a car coming at you won't be able to see your less-powerful WHITE turn signals. There's gotta be some confusion here.. As far as I can tell, you're pointing at the yellow turn signals however..

Hi fastkevin

I'll try to explain it:
Parking light and turn signal on Mustangs are combined (one amber bulb).
And yes, you are right the turn signal must be yellow (also here in Europe) BUT the parking light has to be white.
With the replacement headlights which I have mentioned this issue is solved.
The halo ring will be the white parking light and the area marked as turn signal will be of course with an amber bulb the turn signal.

thanks

Hi ettcon

Yes, I did and they look awesome!
Unfortunately the light output is not very high.
Adjustment of these headlight have to be done very carefully and I would recommend to replace the stock bulbs with some higher quality bulbs like OSRAM or similar.

I will post some pics soon...

I'm not sure if this will help you out or not as I'm not
sure if this is your issue.

If you want your turn signal lights to be white while driving, but yet amber when turning, then look into these LED replacement bulbs. You
may still need to replace the lens to clear, but check out the video to
see if this is what you need. I found one with a mustang for ya.

2011 Ford Mustang R-Tech Switchback LED (Dual Color) LED Turn Signal Bulbs.mp4 - YouTube

If these switchback LED are what you want, you can find them here:

V-LEDS.COM | LED Dome, Map, License Plate, Reverse, DRL, Turn Signal, Brake Lights or check out the url attached to the youtube video.
