Hello everybody,

I'll cut to the chase.

I have issues with the skip-shift. Every time I drive, I turn the traction control off, but still I feel like the skip shift does its thing. I am not new to manual transmissions. I have a lot of problems shifting from 1st to 2nd, sometimes 2nd to 3rd. Took it to the dealer, they said it's fine.

Do you guys think that $400ish for the Ford Racing tuning thing, that adds some hp stock and eliminates skip shift, is worth it?

IMHO, no. Get an aftermarket tune from somebody else.

Is tuning worth it? Absolutely. Ford is going to blame problems on any aftermarket tune, even one that came from their own performance division.

A tune is what it is but if you want to unplug skip shift to try it to see if thats the issue it is no big deal i have been skip shift free since my car was home a week. just crawl under it and unplug that silly thing and enjoy :) i think there are more than enough threads on it so you should be able to get it done real quick. All i can recall is it is on the passenger side rear upper of the tranny i needed to use jackstand to get to it but well worth it :) :yelwacko:

I was going to unplug it from the solenoid but Ford said (obviously) that it would void my warranty.

I just thought that if I purchased their product that my warranty would be ok if something was to happen.

Funny how they just built a car, sold it to us, and said oh well, it's a Ford, you should expect problems :kooky:

Coming from the Ford TSE that I have been corresponding back in forth with, Ford can only void the warranty if they can absolutely prove without a doubt that the modification caused the issue that you bring it in for. The dealer can try to void warranty for anything but they said that the burden of proof falls on their (Ford's) shoulders to prove it. If the dealer handles the warranty improperly, it will be sent to their customer care division and then transferred to another dealer.

I cannot see anyway in which unplugging the solenoid can hurt a transmission. It was merely put there for economy purposes.

Well i am glad i didn't know it when i did it cuz i still would have done it. I hated getting forced into a gear I did not choose.. caused more than one "OH SHEET" moment when i was watching the road an not the dash as i went to restart in traffic thinking i was in 2nd and was in lugg city 4th gear !
As far as i can tell it sends NO codes and all you have to do is plug it back in after you try it out :) cheaper than a tune but not near as much fun !! :yelwacko:

Yea, that's just what they told me. They also told me it would send a check engine code. This is coming from the manager. TT

rodmoe, thanks for your input. I will be looking forward to doing it this weekend. I feel like if I drive the car like this, I'm either going to kill the transmission (by forcing it into 2nd) or the engine (by bogging the hell out of it in 4rt).

I see this as another version of the speed bump...designed for stupid people because of stupid people.

I like my Ford Tune ($308. Tousley Ford). About unplugging the solenoid ruining you trans or warranty. If you have trans problems down the road, plug it back in before you bring it in for service. The same goes for the the tune, just grab the programmer pull out the new tune and replace the factory tune. It doesn't leave fingerprints.

Unplugging the skip shift will not send any code, the manager is full of ****.

At what RPM's do you shift at to cause it the skip shift? I don't think Ive had it happen to me. I rarely drive through city type traffic.

I'd like to hear about this Ford tune you have . Is this tune authorized by Ford that the dealer does ? What did it change ?

We love it. It disables the skip shift, ads low end grunt and crisper throttle response.

I also have a 2012 GT and have had no shifting problems....but I don't know what the skip shifting issue is or what it does or feels like. Can anyone explain it? I searched for "skip shift" and didn't see a specific thread.

If I take off slowly in 1st I get a message that says "1-4 Shift For Fuel Economy".

I've been trying to find out what the skip shift is but can't seem to.
That is the message for the skip shift condition. If you shift to 2nd from 1st WHILE this message is displayed, the trans locks out 2nd and 3rd gear and the gates actually divert the shifter to 4th gear. However, if one shifts very slowly, the skip shift condition will clear itself before the shifter makes it to 2nd gear and the driver will never hit the skip shift. This is what makes people wonder if its working or not. Skip shift shows up under light engine load conditions, typically starting from 1st and shifting at low engine speed (2k - 2.5k rpm) and going down an incline. There is a stretch of road in my neighborhood that would cause the skip shift condition about 80% of the time. I have disconnected skip shift by simply disconnecting the solenoid connector and now don't have to worry about it. I have the optional 3.73 gears, rear end gearing affects engine loading so depending on your cars gearing, the skip shift function may behave differently.

Thank you for explaining it. I'll have to try it just to see what happens. I hope the person at Ford who thought this was a good idea has been fired!!

It's for the "environment" man! Don't you care about the environment?

ROFL. I wish the greenies would stay the **** out of sports cars. Why would you buy a V8 coupe and at the same time, really give a rats ass about fuel economy? If you did care, you would drive a freaking prius or vw diesel.
