2013 Mustang auto loud "clank" sound at low speeds?

1303 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  nsadams87xx
So I've had a 2013 v6 auto(yes I know, but I have tons of stop and go traffic and a manual would drive me crazy for that) for about two weeks now, and I've noticed a loud clank sound at low speeds/stop and go traffic. It doesn't happen all the time. Never driven another automatic that does this.

From what i've read, this may be normal for a manual, but not sure about an auto. Anyone else have this issue or know what would cause it?

Thanks

stock driveshaft?

its a 2 piece cheap pos that is known to make noises at low speeds and break in 1/2 at high speeds...
Hmmmm, I have a 2013 auto V6 convertible. I`ve had it for over a month & have not noticed any "clunk"-----Yet.
Is the noise coming from the front of the car as it's well known the front lower control arms are faulty on a lot of these cars? V6's have a different drive shaft so I can't comment on them but the GT drive shaft does makes some noise at low speeds.

I just got the eta on my auto and I have a crap ton of stop and go traffic as well. Don't let the "haters" get to you! :nogrinner

[and no, I'm not knocking on manual drivers either]

After having driven my manual for several months now, I can tell you that if I wasn't retired and still facing my daily commute I would have also bought an automatic :bigthumbsup.

it's actually coming from the rear. Everything i found online with people having similar issues points either to cheap drive train, universal joint or the actual manual transmission. It's just that everything i've seen has been from people with the manual, not the automatic. I'm going to take it in next week to have it checked out, just like to have an idea what's going on before i have to go deal with the dealership :shigrin

I do appreciate all the replies

Have you found anything out about this yet? I just got mine last night and I'm getting a noise when I left off the gas at about 30mph+ and it doesn't stop until I come to a complete stop.......

At first thought, it's an auto, that shouldn't be the culprit. The engine is always putting some torque through the driveline. Think of the driveshaft as being "pre-loaded" so any play would not be really noticable (a tiny tiny bit of play is a good thing, btw) because the assembly has already been moved through that driveline play tolerance. It's the manuals that clunk a lot.
