2015 Mustang Ecoboost Performance Package. Worth it?

Is the performance package a worthy upgrade to the 2015 ecoboost model? Can I do without it? Anyone drive an ecoboost with and without it and notice significant difference?

If you're going to track the car, either road course or 1/4 mile, then "yes" to the performance package. If not, then I would spend the money on other options.

If you just want the lower gears, you can order the 3.55 gears as a standalone option.
I believe it's certainly worth it. Just to be real, all of the modifications for the "performance package" you can do yourself or better. But lets get serious. How many people are willing to do this kind of work to a brand new car that's still under warranty. Here's the way I see it: the suspension modifications and the final drive ratio are things I will no longer have to deal with modifying myself. I've read that modifying a final drive ratio is easy and straightforward. However I don't care to do it. I think the 3.55 gear ratio is a solid compromise between performance and fuel economy.

As far as the suspension modifications go, I would really look into BMR suspensions anti wheel hop bushings they have. The demonstration videos look very promising.

this is a good question and I hope to see more answers. I'm currently about to lease an ecoboost but i'm undecided if I need the package or not.

I figured the same thing about mine when I bought it. 6 months of owning it later, I was throwing mods at it like crazy anyways. For $~2k, the performance packages are still pretty damned good and I got my fair use out of the components; still have some of them lying around for replacement if the need ever arises.

I like it.

I just traded in my 2012 V6 for an EcoBoost with the performance package. I really like the brake upgrade, and overall handling is very good as well. Overall, I think it's a good mix of things. I didn't order the car, I just found it on the lot this way. I'm not sure I would have ordered one with the package, but I don't regret getting it. I thought my 6 handled well, but this is better. And my payment is still lower.

I have 600 miles on 2015 ecoboost premium with PP. The tempetures have not been warm enough to fully use the summer tires, but I am driving from DC to Tail of the Dragon over Easter weekend. Should have a good review after that.

I will say this car handles much better than my 12 brembo package car. Feels more nimble and planted, particularly in corner with bumps. I did drive a 2015 non PP car and the difference was very noticeable in handling, braking and performance (thanks to 3.55 rear)

If you want to get the most out of the car the PP is worth it as long as you are ok with summer tires that are not very good below 40f and have a less than 20k life (more like 12k if you drive them hard)

Ford did an incredible job with this car! Fit finish looks and handling are outstanding.

^^^ This, especially if you are like me and leased with no intentions of doing suspension mods. The 3.55 make a big difference over standard 3.15 with the 2.3

congratulations Watchdogg. Now if you don't mind me asking, why did you sell your GT for the ecoboost. Don't misunderstand me, I am not bashing you, its just that the brembo pack GT with 3.73 gears and a 6 speed is my dream car. huh.gif
I sold my 2012 because I had had my fun with it. Was approaching 60k and had moved to Old Town Alexandria where just do not need it or even a car. My 6speed was anything but a dream. Although I do miss the v8 growl, the 2015 is a better in just about every way.>:)

fair enough
Performance packs comes with front brembos right? Larger radiator in the V8 does the 4 get a larger Intercooler too? What is the upgrade cost 2K? If so brembos have to be close to that just for the fronts. And you get wheels and Tires larger sway bars gauges etc. My thinking was it was worth it and I got it on my GT.

Enjoy the car.

GT gets 6 piston brembos, Ecos PP get GT front 4 piston brakes with brembo compound pads I think. Regardless the brakes are very good, I recently put them to the test in Smokie Mountains. No fade, good linear stopping.

You don't get a larger intercooler with Ecoboost PP (I'd have been all over a PP Ecoboost if it did). You get the better brakes, the gears, some suspension tweaks, the oil pressure and boost gauges in the center stack and the wheels/tires.

I thought the PP wheels were ugly so I didn't want them. I intend to do significant suspension work myself, so that didn't mean much to me. And the two gauges strike me as kind of gimmicky (you can use your computer screen in the gauge cluster to display whatever gauges you want already).

The gears... now that's an interesting question. I've had people tell me that the 3.15s I have in my automatic Eco are actually just about as good as the 3.55. I'm not sure I buy that, but I admit, I don't really understand why that would be the case. Anyway, gears are pretty cheap even if you wanted to do a swap.

The only thing I wanted for sure was the brakes... which I may do later on down the line. So I decided to save the $2,000. Never mind the fact that where I live, it's almost impossible to find a PP Ecoboost *without* the premium trim (and they don't want to haggle on them, because they are in demand), which I definitely didn't want. I'd rather buy a base GT, than a Eco + PP + Premium, because the MSRP is pretty much the same at that point.

I dunno. A lot of folks say you need the PP. You don't. But if you like the wheels... wheels are pricey mothers. That + the brakes almost makes it worth it, if you like them.
