289 Engine re-build trouble, 1966 Mustang

983 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Montana's Stang
I have a 1966 Mustang Coupe I am working on and I trying to re-build the 289 engine in it. I need a new crankshaft for it but cannot find one reasonable. Any suggestions on where to look?

Thanks

you should be able to find one in Summit or Jegs...have you seen if yours can be turned?
Thanks.

No, I haven't, how is that done?
take it to your local machine shop and have it checked.
Might just need a polishing and oversized crank bearings.
If you aren't going for a crazy "strip only" type engine you can probably have your stock crank turned/polished and be just fine. It's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new crank.
