The HiPo was a Fairlane engine designed for, and first used in the 1963 Fairlane. That is why many of the casting numbers for it and many of the other 289s indicate 'O' for Fairlane.

The 100k mile Daytona Durability Run was in Sept '63 using HiPo engines in '64 Comets. The Mustang was the last car to use the HiPo, not the first.

Again, you need the Bob Mannel SBF V8 book. It tells all the details of what was used when and where.

How about those 3-speed, column shift, HiPo Comets?
