I was hoping to get your thoughts on good places or sites to pick up a 302 block or short block. Also your opinion on whether it is better to by a new short block, or just rebuild a used one?

Thanks

To bad you weren't in Florida I have a friend that just lowered the price of his never run sonic tested A4 Block for $1100:rollgrin:

The price that CJ mentioned, for his friends at $1,100.00 is not a bad price. I would send a PM to ( BRUTAL METAL ), and talk to him about it. If you have cash in hand, you might be able to get it for a little less. And where you're located, it might cost you an extra $100.00 for shipping ( Truck Freight ), Mike. :bigthumbsup:bigthumbsup

As I have never built an engine before I might be misinformed, but for what I want, I think the A4 might be overkill??? I really am only aiming for ~350 HP - So a cheaper block may suit me. I don't plan on racing the car too often, if at all. Another question I should ask then is what are the main differences in the different 302 blocks... R-blocks, A4, and so on? I can use all the help I can get :)

Thanks

if you have the skills & time rebuilt it yourself......

If not give these guys a call......

FordStrokers.com 331-347-393-408-418-427 stroker kits and ford parts.

Very nice site! Thanks. This seems like a reputable place. A couple other questions I have are:

1.) When they say "Seasoned Block," does this mean a reconditioned stock Ford Product or are these Non-Ford Aftermarket Products?

2.) What are World blocks or Dart Blocks in comparison to the Ford Products?

Thanks

The Dart, World Products Man O' War and A4 are all pretty similar with the first two having the most metal to work with as far as cylinder wall thickness etc... Last monday I viewed a bare Dart on an engine stand next to the A4 and it's beefier!!
That being said for 350hp these are overkill, a simple 302 2 bolt mains will be fine!!

Actually, being you're in California, check these out.

Powered By Ford - Your only high performance parts supplier for your Ford car or truck

Coast High Performance: Ford, Chevy, Stroker Kits, Short Blocks, Long Blocks, Crate Engines

Ford Performance Solutions

There's more than just 1 place to buy from. Plus with those being in California, your shipping will be less as well. Those 3 are highly recommended and reputable in the quality of their work.

A Dart block and a World Products block are the ones you want when you're going for SERIOUS power, power that's beyond the capabilities of a stock block. Being your goal is 350, you don't need a monster $2000+ block like a Dart or WP.

A seasoned block is where it's gone through sufficient heat cycles and it's ready for use.
