351 Cleveland or 429

Hey allfordstangs
recently I my freind came up on two engines and is willing to sell me or both
one is a 351 cleveland I think it came out of a ranchero sport and the engine is stock has all matching numbers
the other is a 429 out of a gran torino not sure one
year
they both come with there transmission automatic
hes asking $350 for the 429 and $350 for the cleveland

Now I have a 1990 mustang gt hatch Aod
ive never really thought of swapping but this sounds like a deal to me
Is it a good deal?
which would be easier/better to swap in?
would they hook up to my aod tranny?
could I buy both and some how swap parts between the two to make a hybrid engine??

The 351C would probably be easier. It will bolt to the AOD too.
At this point it would be the same amount of work involved. Me, my moto......no replacement for displacement. Both special oil pan, special headers, custom driveshaft, beefed rear suspension. Aftermarket K member needed for clearance.

Both would be fun as hell to drive! Weight savings for the 351.
okay so improvement wise over my 5.0 what am I looking at?

You can pretty much buy all that you need to do the swap but it all requires money and homework.

Plus one. Everything can be bought though jegs/ summit type places. Just droping in the motors will not be an inprovement unless rebuilt. Stock for stock your 5.0 would have more power!
okay so Ive heard you can get more out of a 351 now I would completely rebuild and mod it before dropping it in.
What mods would I need to make it badass?:bigthumbsup
Good hardware APR bolts. Quality head gaskets. Different cam shaft. Roller rockers. Good intake manifold (hi rise if carbureted) 750+ cc. depending on cam and intake selected. Good ignition system. Good fuel system. Good heads.

Like was mentioned, it takes planning. If you know you'll want to add a turbo or charger then you have to keep the compression ratio lower.

The faster you wanna go the deeper pockets you need......not gonna lie!

Not to mention that you have to get that power to the ground so...........good suspension too.

It depends on how much power you wanna make. To get 600 hp out of a BB doen't take much. To get 600 hp out of a SB requires more to get it there.
yeah 600 is a bit much i was looking at mainly about 400+ i'd still like something I could drive daily
I got a guy who will trafe me some gt40 heads upper intake and lower intake there off an explorer ima trade him 4 18inch cobras, is it a good trade are all the parts swppable on my 5.0
He said the heads need to hot tanked,
You also got to remember there were a few variations of the 351 and 429 as not all of them were fire breathing dragons and most came with measley hp with choked up systems.

Also if he said the heads need to be hot tanked that means they just came off the original car. That means they need to go to a machine shop, get cleaned up, checked out (have any work that needs to be done) and swap in new valve springs as the stock ones suck.

What do you think the rims are worth? A cheap set of GT40 heads and intake can be found for $250 to $300 all the time.
My rims idk there 18inch cobras black i dont like them so there not worth much plus hes giving me the gt40 heads, gt40 upper intake, and gt40 lower intake,
Could i swap all of these on to my 5.0

Yes this will all fit on your 5.0.....see if he has the throttle body as that would be an upgrade over the stock unit also.
okay upgrade wise what am I looking at with all of those.
