Hello everyone I would like to know how I can keep my header bolts from getting loose all the time. I've seen the locking bolts. Also someone said to use locktite but alittle afraid that in the future I won't be able to take them out. What do you guys think?
Yeah that's eactly what it is Thank God and you don't sound stupid. I believe the red one you're refering to is Permatex High Temp one but there's a warning not to use it on any parts that may come in contact with gas. So I'm assuming you'll be safe if you decide to use that. There's also a blue, gray and black kind of RTV that Permatex also makes. I can't remember the differences between them all but I know you've got some options.
This may be a dumb idea but I'd think you might even be able to get away with some of that thread tape that's supposed to seal threads that come in contact with water. I can't remember the official name for it at the moment but my guess is that there would be enough friction there because of the tape to keep the bolts fastened pretty well but not too tight whereas you can't remove them again.
Hi there the tape Nor Cal refers to is teflon tape. It's good stuff, but you can also use loctite. Loctite not only keeps the bolts from backing off, it acts as a thread sealer to help the bolts from rusting in place. However, I think all these suggestions these guys made are good. good Luck
