Ok I have an 88 lx 5.0 manual 5 speed and I'm wanting to buy the 373 gears from late model restoration and they have just the gear for $145 or the gear set which comes with crush seals, new bearings, oil, the gears, diff bolts, and a reusable differential gasket for $260 I'm leaning towards the set. My question is should I get the set and what speedo will I need ( 20 tooth )? Also how will the RPMs be on the highway? Thanks

When I had the '87 GT I had a 3:55 setup installed, and it was perfect! Great traction and the engine ran where I wanted it to. The rpm on the highway will be up there with the 3:73 but it depends on how much highway driving you do. If you do a lot, the 3:55 is the one. As far as the speedo gear, LMR should be able to tell you that.

373 ??

Thanks guys for the advice, I did buy another mustang and it had an aluminum drive shaft and he said that there are 373 gears in the car already. In order to find out should I pull the gear cover off and count the teeth on the ring and pinion?? Thanks

First of all, latemodel has a speedometer gear calculator on their site, just enter the required information and it will tell you the drive and driven gears needed. To find out what gear set is in your other car, just put some tape on the driveshaft and tire then turn the tires about ten revolutions and count the revolutions of the driveshaft, then you can divide the two counts to find the gear ratio.

This tool will help you know your rpms etc.... with what gears you put in the rear.

Gear Ratio Calc
I had 3.73's with my original T-5 that had a 3:30 first gear and I thought they were great.
I have since switch to 4:30's when I got my T-5z which has a 2:95 first gear. But the car is used primarily for drag racing, and driving to and from the track.
Hope this helps
