Is the thermostat sticking? That has happened to me before. You can always pull the thermostat out and try running it without one to see if there is a difference in operating temps.
393w Stroker running hot. NEED HELP!
Ok, Just got the motor in and man does she sound AWESOME!!! WOW!! is all I can say. One problem though, After a few minutes at idle the temp creeps up to around 200-210. I shut it off and wait for the electric fan to cool it down. What is the problem???
Here's what I've got: Aluminum radiator with an electric fan, new high volume aluminum water pump, no shroud and running a serpentine belt system. Motor is a brand new 393w stroker with aluminum heads so I don't want it to get too hot.

Nope, I pulled it out thinking that was the problem but it wasn't. I left it out and tried running it again. Same thing. Kept slowly getting hotter. Not sure if it is the pump or vapor lock or what??? Thanks
This may sound like a dumb question, but is the waterpump turning in the right direction? If you have a serpentine belt system... I have heard of the belts getting routed incorrectly and turning the accessories backward. My friend runs a repair service and has told me some good stories about things like that happening.
have you checked to see if your getting proper oil to the upper cylinders and do u have good oil pressure. a lack of lubrication could be a problem. also any air pockets in the cooling system could also be causing this.
Ok, It has great oil pressure (around 40-60 at start then at 800rpms around 20-30 after warmed up). I also left the valve covers off at first to make sure the oil was flowing through the lifters and yep didn't take long to figure that it was. :bigthumbsup

I would check the manufacturer's website for the waterpump rotation direction since it is an aftermarket unit.
As for the air pockets, I was told to drain the block and start over by adding coolant while the car is running with radiator cap removed so the system is not under pressure until it is full. Then put the cap on and check for leaks.

Post some photos of your Mustang on the forum when you have time. Looks like a nice ride. What year is it? 67? What type of transmission and rearend gearing are you running?
Nice 'Stang. Did you build the engine or is it a crate motor or speed shop build? I hope you have some extra rubber in the garage. By the sounds of it, you'll need it.:gringreen
Yeah, I built the motor. I had all the machine work done then I assembled it in my garage. A lot of time and money put into it. I am figuring around 450-500hp. We'll see. Thanks for the feedback
