3g low idle voltage

OK, so I tried the search function, and swear I couldn't find anything. I'm sorry. However, I just completed a 3g upgrade with a 150 amp 3g off ebay. At idle with everything on it just dosent seem to charge. Even with everything off the voltage only raises to 13 volts, not the full 14.5. This was read by a voltmeter at the battery. I hooked the yellow to yellow green to green on the new alternator and ran 3 10 gauge runs back to the solenoid. (could not find 6 for the life of me today). With everything turned on it seems to maintain 12 volts. I was wanting to go with electric fans, but the way it looks this alternator is being eaten alive by the existing car. Does changing the white wire from the alternator to the battery post help. I am also thinking cleaning up the grounds as well maby? just wanted to hear yalls experience with these problems.

Do you have pullies on the car?.. Sometimes the aftermarket alternator pully is to big.

Mine does that as well. The regulator inside of the alternator senses battery voltage as more and more load is applied.

I can drive several miles before the alternator finally kicks up to the full voltage.

Check any place that sells welding equipment and get 6.0G or better. I wouldn't trust those 3 10G wires for very long.

Well, I cleaned and replaced all grounds, added a 2 gauge ground from the block to the chassis, and another 2 gauge ground from the alternator case to the chassis, It seems as though all is well now, the dash gauges even work nice and steady now :bigthumbsup with everything on in the car, and I mean EVERYTHING, at idle it will still hold 12.5 volts. Just thought I would update what I did so that future searches might find some help.

No pulleys that I can tell, but you do bring up a good point, Ill have to check the pulley diameters on the two alternators when I get home.

And yea, I need to upgrade those 10 gauges, they work, but with the stereo on full blast with the AC they get quite warm, so they will be replaced with 4 gauge as soon as I get my next paycheck.
