3M Adheshive Bonding Tape.

I was just curious to hear some feedback from any of you who have their hood scoops taped on, as opposed to bolted on. How many of you did it yourself? Easy? How secure a bond does this tape provide? I'd hate to have my scoop fly off on the expressway. Thanks.

3M's tape is the best out there.
key thing is to make sure you paint is clean and free of wax. most parts come with a alcohol pad to help remove wax and grease films. once the scoop is on...its there to stay...make sure you get it right the 1st time!
there have been stories of these flying off but it had to be cause of the paint and/or part wasnt clean. not the tape's fault.
i got the Roush Hood scoop so i had it taped and bolted on there. Double the protection, double the fun :D
I had a 3D Carbon scoop on mine for a year held on with nothing but tape. As Mick stated, prep is important. Also good to use 3M adhesion promoter to make the tape stick better.
Thanks for the feedback. I feel better about this now.
Oh, one more question. It gets pretty cold in Chicago. I don't have a heated garage. Does the tape hold well in the bitter cold?
Mine is bolted and taped also. I'm stuck with more holes again.

Yes it will hold fine, hot or cold..
I have been told that 3m is great. It holds fine and saw a car with scoops that have been on it for over a year and it would not budge no matter how hard you pulled on it. I mean with a ton of force sure, but it will be fine for a long time.
When I removed mine it took all the force I could muster to get that thing off.
That tape is almost like welding it on.
