Well to what extent will you be doing this build? Are you going to bore the motor or just hone the cylinders? Camshaft? Valves? Rocker arms? The build for a 4.2 is relatively easy, getting the block out of the car and ripping that crank out and throwing a new one in. Id like to hear back from you about to what extent your build will entail
I'm guessing he is using the word "build" as in the car, not as in building the actual engine.
If I am correct, OP don't bother swapping a stock 4.2. In stock form it has only 12 more horsepower than your 3.8. If you are installing seriously modified cylinder heads, larger camshaft, ported intake manifold... then yeah the extra .4 cubic liters will help a lot.
