Okay today I was reading 5.0 magazine and came across an article of a guy making a N/A mustang gt S197 and he managed to pull of 406 RWHP without heads.

I don’t know how much is true but sounds great. He basically had everything an N/A set up could have other than heads and changing the bottom end and he didn't mention the drivetrain componets.

He had JLT intake, Electric water pump, CMCV delete plates, , mutha thumpr Cams and Phasers,JBA long tubes, Off road x pipe and apparently a great tune from dynospeed.

I know this is going to make STL wagon all testy because he had a N/A set up that didn't go well. Although I think that this is possible because a lot of your power comes from the tune and a lot of us get stressed by half ass dyno tuners around our areas that tell us your only supposed to see 10 RWHP when everyone else is getting 20 RWHP.

If you think this is true or have something similar feel free to gives us the tech specs to an awesome set-up. I have to say I have wanted to get an electric water pump for a while and will soon do so.

It doesn’t seem all that unreasonable. Its all about combinations. It may simply be a matter of this being a very efficient collection of mods.

And of course heads help. But the OEM heads are GOOD! They are an absolutely outstanding OEM head and there is not a lot to be had with porting, etc compared to most other heads. This is not the old days where you could pick up 50hp bolting a set of good heads on a 5.0.

And there is also how fast the motor is spun. Of course this guy is not going to do it with a stock bottom end but a well built shortblock and very well setup valvetrain will allow you to spin a Modular motor to 8500rpm’s no problem. With a stout/light bottom end, perfectly set up valvetrain (smart spring rates and light components) along with a perfect cam it would not be very hard to get 500rwhp out of a 4.6 3v with a 8500rpm redline. Thats not much more than 100hp/litre which is not that big of a deal in this day and age. My Ducati 1098 motor makes 140rwhp/litre and the power peak is only at 9600rpm's so it's not even close to high strung. And oddly enough the bore and stroke numbers are very close to the 4.6.

It sure would sound incredible.:bigthumbsup

Those mods are more like 406 flywheel hp on a good day :headscratch:

Would you willing to back that statemet up with a wager? I'll bet you I can get that kind of power out of that combination. Ad even more with a different cam.

Combination is the key word. Combinations are more (or less) than the individual parts. Then there is how it is set up (cam timing) and tuned.

this is great news for N/A people ( not that is hasnt been done before).... i think i can believe that 406rwhp claim with those mods... that plus a well built suspension and add some weight loss and you got one crazy car IMO... atleast for road racing/autocross.... just need a big brake kit and some lightweight wheels at that point.... ahh it never ends does it!!!!!!!!:shigrin

do you have a similar amount of mods done? like that exact setup just different combinations? or what?
Nope, I am FI.

I just know I wouldn’t have a problem making that kind of power with a combination like that. It wouldn’t be hard at all. And I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is.

Well think of this there was a post a few weeks ago with some tuner that if not mistaken tuned a mustang GT with FRPP hot rod cams and only got this guy 10RWHP somebody else came on told everyone how to tune and where to take timing and I think that he got 32RWHP those are completly different numbers and sounds like to me the tune is the key to the world of bolt on's.
