The tfi was more of a common problem on the 86-93 models because it would develop heat soak issues because of being mounted to the distributor.Once it was relocated to another part of the vehicle,the failure rate went way down.
The ect can be tested by disconnecting its wiring harness and placing multimeter leads across the sensor terminals with the meter set to read ohms.Test it cold then warm the engine up for 10-15 minutes and test it warm.The values should match the chart below for a given temp.
