First where on earth did a 13 year old get 16000 bucks?? WTF DUDE? im 16 and would kill for 1000 let alone 16! Get what you want your money seems to be in good supply. And oh yeah driving in a parking lot is nothing like driving in real conditions. You will have the urge to go fast when you first get the car, believe me! And with alot of power you will kill yourself! I say you get a 4-wheeler or something more usefull to a little kid. Wait a while it wont take you 3 years to screw wit your car if yu have the money to buy the parts then you wont r=drive it for 2 years after its done!!!

Just my $0.02

Sorry that I may not be familiar with your situation, but this post made me laugh. You have an 05 stang and you are confronting this guy about what he does with his money? Oh, and you admit to being the same age! LOL

Just seems to be a little "pot calling the kettle black"

Later,
Jason

Go with something classic from the 60s & slowly restore the whole thing. By the time you've worked on it from head to toe & restored it, you'll have enough respect for the car that it deserves that you're much more NOT likely to wrap it around a tree @ 16-18 years old. Plus, if you fully restore it & cherry it out, you'll still get all the chicks. =) That and have a classic ride to boot!
That's exactly what I did at 15, and I cherished that car more than life itself (at the time). Yeah, I'd take her out for a spin now and again - but only when the risk was extremely minimal.

This would be a smart plan, as the knowledge and repsect you earn during these years will last a lifetime with you.

I vote resto job. Honestly, you've got 3 years and a pretty decent chunk of cash... probably not "enough" to do something REALLY sweet but grab a job next year (or now, whenever it's nice and legal in your area) and you should be more than on your way! Plus... sounds like if you're doing something really cool pops wouldn't be adverse to picking up the tab on a couple things now and then.

'65 if you're lookin' for a drop top, '67 hard. There were a couple guys with 5-10 year old cameros and mustangs in high school and honestly, meh... they (and the cars) were mostly loud, annoying, and liked to make excuses when I blew their doors off in a sc'd T-bird. The guy with the Galaxie 500 on the other hand... niiiiiice car (even though in reality it as a bit of a POS and he didn't even have a top for it).

If you're looking for bang for the buck power though, I guess I'd have to vote late fox body 302. I'd seriously seriously try to go old-school though

I understand the desire to have a nice car, and especially the "coolness factor" of having it at 16 in High School (always remember that high school is a short period in your life and the ones that truly care about it seem to go nowhere). However, there are a whole lot of negatives against it.

1. You are young, the probability that you will have an accident is incredibly high. There is a reason why insurance companies charge younger drivers so much more.

2. Thats a crap load of money man, wouldn't some/all of it be better put towards college?

3. Ok, you got the car, but how are you going to pay for gas, insurance, and maintenance of it? Especially considering that gas is approaching 3 bucks a gallon now.

4. If you take 10,000 of that money, put it into a cd or a well performing mutual fund you could have at least 14,000 dollars for college.

5. (yes this is the last one) I graduated from college debt free, I don't have to worry about money nearly as much as some of my friends and now have an order in for a 2006 Mustang GT.

the end.

Sorry, one more, your family has lots of fun cars to play with, use theirs when you need to get your fix :)

let the boy have some dreams guys.......... im pretty sure at 16 that if you guys had 16 grand to put up on a car that you wouldnt be thinking about an " old 6cyl" or a "helmet and a bike". expecially when your hotrodding is in your family

And you were right the only kids that wore helmets while riding bikes when I was little were the retarded kids and mama's boy's. :drink:

Hey man... I never said get an old 6 :winks I just figure with that kind of cash and that kind of time one could have a SWEET vintage ride with infinitely more style than a late fox-body (my vote on the original question was 5.0)

As for the helmets... I sure they're a good idea and all but man... the day the helmet law came into effect here ( <16 I think ) was the day I started walking everywhere. No way I was wearing a helment and messing up my hair at 15 1/2! :jester:

My favorite car is the 65-66 Fastback. 69-70 mach 1 a close second

I actually never really thought of getting a classic, I might look into it.

Getting a classic is a nice idea, just get something you really like, it doesnt matter you are 13, just TRY YOUR BEST to be responsible once you get that Mustang in the street.

I learned to drive at 12, my first car at 15, my first mustang at 17, only got into one bad accident, after that i LEARNED that bad judgement kills you....be it at 30mph or 120mph.

Follow the traffic and driving rules and you will be ok for the most part.. but save some of that money for unexpected REPAIRS.

Age does give you experience, but lets face it, there are plenty of "mature" morons out there, age matters but being smart will keep you safe.
