Hey guys I have a buddy who just swapped a 5.4 engine out in a truck for a customer of his because the 5.4 he removed blew 2 spark plugs out. The engine still runs and was in good condition. He doesnt want much at all for this engine. My question is, Is this worth picking up? Are there anyone out here who wants this or would be interested? How much more can one gain out of the 5.4 2v vs. a 4.6 2v stroker engine?

Sorry to be "POST" happy last few days but I havent done much with these swaps. I am not sure I will swap this out for my built shortblock but I figure this might be a good project for a future car lol. Just trying to get ideas....

If you planned on cams, heads, poweradder, etc then yes but to just use as a stock replacement with more discplacment than no. They are rated the same Hp wise but have more torque...I also believe you need a new hood due to the extra deck height plus to run the PI intake you need the intake adapters....

If someone is looking for a project then sure but it's just easier to stick with the 4.6l...in my humble opinion.

It's a cool idea for a swap, but it won't do anything a 4.6 won't do. Except be heavier.

Now if there were an aluminum version of the 5.4 block, that could be interesting...

I thought some of the components that make up the 5.4 were better suited for performance modification. I don't know if it's a different 5.4 like the different 4.6's out there. But Ford did make some 5.4's that move.

The only 5.4l 2V that meets that description is the Lightning 5.4 but this engine is not from a lightening.

Well I guess I am going to pick this up since it was FREE and put it on one of my engine stands and maybe someday make a project out of it. I myself dont really need it but hey, free engines are always nice as long as they are Ford. LOL

Ford GT also used a 5.4, may have even been an aluminum block but I'm entirely unsure on that. Either way, that thing is super nasty but good luck finding one.

Steve, you could always do a budget performance minded rebuild on it and sling it for a nice little chunk.

^ True...as well as the GT500 5.4 4Vs and the 2000 Cobra R, but none of the 2V 5.4s (except the Lightening) provide any real advantage over the 4.6L. I was assuming the 5.4s that were being referred to were from the 2V variant :)

I have seen one Navigator 5.4 4V swap in our cars (on youtube) and it only made 330 to the ground...not very impressive in my opinion for all the work that went into it. I'm sure there are more around...

I picked up my free engine this morning. Monday I go pick up a 4.6 out of a Lincoln Town Car from my local junk yard as an insurance policy on my current engine. Still have 2 4.6 2v blocks laying around. I need more cars for all these engines I am acquiring lol.

You should take that 5.4 and drop it into a Towncar, make a real nasty sleeper build. Dunno why but I have a thing for Towncars.... If I ever win the lottery I'm gonna Termi swap my grandfather's '97. Just what an 80 year old man needs, 500rwhp haha.

I been doing alot of research and I have big plans for that 5.4 at some point. Every 80 year old needs 500 rwhp. At least I know I want that at 80 if I should live that long. LOL

Extra engines? And need cars? I wonder how my dad will take the news I'm putting a Ford Mod engine in a Nova that is being reconstructed to look like his from long ago. (Joking of course) but I'm going to have to try it just to see his face...

That would be priceless. I love the mod motors and have a good understanding of how to build and fix them pretty quickly. Honestly it is probably one of the easiest engines I have ever worked with.

I have been doing alot of research on the 5.4 DOHC build and I am going to do this with this engine. I will be taking photos of this build from start to finish to help others with the building of engines or building of a nasty 5.4 DOHC

5.4L is a massively wide motor, hard to see it to be worth the trouble as a 2V engine, by the time you get headers and an intake that will fit under a hood you spent another $2K.

Seems that the OP is doing a 4V build.... He may need a shoehorn and a little spit on the strut towers (and definitely a taller hood) but I think this one could get interesting.

F/I on your list for this one, Steve?

This is either getting a unique intake not available in USA ("good day mate..." I wonder how many knows this one???) or adapter plates for a 4.6 dohc intake to fit a 5.4 dohc so I can bolt-on a cobra supercharger kit.

I have contact with a gentleman who has several and is shipping them over insured and gaskets as a complete deal with throttle body for a GREAT price. Just havent decided yet if I want that setup or a whipple supercharger.
